  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

foolcontrol - power fool DSMC camera control

version 0.962 released with a bug fix for the Kelvin text field (when manually entering a value) that was not sent to the camera.

FWIW the app is now being tested at several major RED friendly rental places around the world (eagerly waiting for a release firmware to be able to deploy it on feature projects) and also being evaluated this week on a famous US TV show shooting on RED :-)

I am working on implementing Tangent Element Panel support for super fine look control and also finishing the work on WMD FIZ motor control

iPhone app still under development but will post a video demo of some of the features soon.

Mikael, not trying to derail your thread but this seems to be where everyone is gathering to learn more about Redlink. So my question from someone who's at sea, is there an Android tablet way of connecting with the Redlink Bridge?

By the way, the REDLINK SDK provides a C API and also a Java wrapper of said API that can be used in Android app development. The SDK also comes with a sample android app using our API as a demonstration of how to develop such an app.

Hi Paul, yes in fact once this will be ready you will be able to remap commands among several panels including wave or their iPad app... This will done via tangent interface tool.

FYI, little pricing note :

The NAB introduction pricing for foolcontrol is still valid and will be until a stable FW > 5.2.x is officially released as non beta. After that date expect a Price increase...

foolcat will stay at current pricing until major new features are released (like LUT support to delog thumbnails, arriraw...).

Of course both apps will still be free upgrades for all early adopters (anyone who owns a license can install new versions at no cost, including those who bought foolcat at the begining when it was only 19 USD).

UI parameters locking

UI parameters locking

foolcontrol OS X 0.98 new feature (often requested from people using it on set) : individual UI elements locking to prevent accidental or unwanted change.

You can now quickly and easily disable or re-enable a parameter from both in the main window or look panel...

Hi Mark, glad you like the app :-)

You can press the M key or click on the blue button (MARK FRAME in bottom left section, only visible while recording) to add a tag that will be stored in the R3D
(you then can jump to that frame in playback mode or in REDCINE-X)

If you have a video signal from camera to computer (using BlackMagic device via SDI or HDMI) then foolcontrol will add the 'foolscreen' features : image preview, overlay and snapshot saving...

When you enable this last one it will save first, last and any tagged frame to a folder on your desktop along with timecode or frame info.

It works fine but it is very basic at the moment and I'll probably be adding more stuff in this area (selectable frame size, sorting of thumbnails, proxy recording etc).

Right.
But I do not see why I could not enable that in an upcoming version... (not adding tag to the R3D but saving a snapshot).

noted on my list :-)

latest updates :

version 0.998 fixed a trigger issue with frame trigger button in Trigger and Burst REC mode in latest betas
version 0.997 add sorting by IP in camera list, and display up to 12 camera without having to scroll the list if you have more than 6 connected...
version 0.995 support for temporary (expiring) licenses
version 0.99 fixed a rare bug when multiples notification were send from camera and a hidden one was automatically dismissed

Just released version 0.999 (I guess the next one will finally be numbered 1.0 hehe)
Added new 1-9 keyboard shortcut to apply fool presets directly from record view.
Those presets can be created in the app for most settings (with look values but also a user selectable list of parameters including project settings, slate, camera settings etc). They are simple text files that one could potentially edit with a simple text editor and share with others or across several computers. You simply have to rename them in Finder so they are sorted the way you want in order to recall them using those new numerical shortcut keys...

This version also adds a 'delay' parameter for presets... it is a pretty advanced feature that is undocumented but if you know RCP 'core' commands (or if you ask me by email) almost any kind of macro preset can be created, to access any menu or camera setting not present in RCP protocol yet via keystrokes or special commands not in foolcontrol UI. The possibility of adding a delay between some commands allows for even more options to create user requested specific macro presets...

Thanks to all those who fear not to install beta FW and use the app all around the world, in the air, under water, connecting dozen of Dragons simultaneously and other crazy things :-)

here's a recent pict sent by DOP Patrick Duroux shooting a DHL commercial in Chile and South Africa who used foolcontrol wired and wireless with drones, movi, helicopters etc

Finally just released a 1.0 build !
Several small bug fixes:
- fix for some buttons that could get stuck : top right playback start stop button, refresh media and frame processing value buttons (thanks Ben Iizuka of Seika Digital Image in Japan)
- Now can send key shortcuts like new 1-9 preset single key preset apply from the setting page.
