  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Confirmed! Coming soon, tiny hardware transceivers to run Foolcontrol at 1km+ range :

RT MOTION twitter link

:-)

Pardon my ignorance: Would this be an RF (more reliable signal?) alternative to wifi via Redlink/Hotbox?
And to run Foolcontrol OSX and/or IOS?
Super cool, anyway

buckle up... RTmotion + foolcontrol goodness coming very soon...

This is huge

the boxes will also allow simultaneous use of their handheld unit or small knobs on Canon lenses (same 1.5 km range), drive a single external / PL motor from foolcontrol, drive a cabrio, or read data from a cinetape among other cool things

Exiting. I should give you a closer look at what I work with.

We go towards first betarelease, this lands in the middle of the next featureset we are building.
One thing, though...
To me it is important that several things can access RCP...

Works fine with what I use now. (Recording metadata to Movieslate and HAL, giving input with Optitron, foolcontrol and HAL (for different workflows, we send metadata live, and record them) on-set they have different users, so I like this structure. Will it work with this, too?

Also: Will this work with external motors, so that I can calibrate a lens and map motor-positions to distances, aperture/zoom positions?

Fantastic!

Do not have all the details yet but since it will use the single camera CTRL port you might not be able to mix and match with other devices so much... unless you use them thru built-in wifi or GIG-E which should be fine.

Main purpose of those boxes (that's the best I can call them now without revealing the name) is to allow long range robust foolcontrol beaming and lens control using interconnections between knobs + buttons / handheld focus unit / foolcontrol using either the camera + internal lens motors or a single external motor.

Could also be compatible with the 3 channels tiny receiver too but I do not have too much details on this for now.

Now the big question, how long till release!!

Now the big question, how long till release!!

I do not have this info but... I'd say it should be ready and shipping before "the rise of the ravens"...

For price i dont have info either, but Kris just said (on Facebook) :
"I haven't worked it out yet! It enables so many potential uses that I plan to be price-agressive and go for a really wide release!"

I have one question? I want to use Raven on a DJI Ronin. Can I use FOOLCONTROL to change parameters in camera through the app? It is absolutely the same as with touch screen? I want to have no wires from the DJI Ronin to the Raven. Thank you

Hello Karel

Yes with RAVEN built-in wifi you can connect to the camera and change settings wirelessly.

It is not *exactly* like the touch screen. It allows change of a large majority of settings, access to camera menu (like a sidekick) , look values, playback, presets, and few stuff that are not convenient or not even possible to do on a touch screen like metadata ingest or precise focus control.

A few rare stuff in the camera UI are not yet available thru RED CONTROL PROTOCOL (RCP) so will require either a touch screen or 'on screen' menu navigation (with upcoming side handle, sidekick or using navigation keys in foolcontrol itself) to reach the screen menu.

Most important missing command (for Epic Scarlet but not so much on DSMC2) is the black shading create / recall, or the creation of key shortcuts. Those may appear as dedicated buttons / menus in foolcontrol interface at a later date once enabled in RCP. But those are more prep settings that you do before shooting anyway and won't really slow you down during a typical shooting day.

But RED engineers are filling the gap pretty quickly by continuously adding new features to the SDK (software development kit)

That sounds absolutely superb!
I fact what I want to change is resolution, fps, shutter speed etc. without turning the dji ronin off.
Thank you very much for you very helpful answer, Mikael.

all of this obviously included in foolcontrol main page settings and can be included easily in your foolcontrol presets for quick change.
And with RAVEN's auto black shading you will be fine to shoot and playback all day on a Ronin setup with no touch screen.

Presets in foolcontrol for a quick change sounds absolutely amazing! For gimbal work foolcontrol with HD wireless video and handheld work Raven with touch screen. Nice. Thanks very much

Can't wait to try this out when I get my Raven. Thumbnail playback sounds amazing. Does fool control allow you to see what is being captured? Or would you need a wireless monitor still.

those single frame low res thumbnails used to display the clip list are the only images offered thru the camera control protocol.
