  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

FOOLCONTROL for Iphone @ IBC

Got my Hotlink today and paired it up with fool control. First let me say the app is fantastic, good work. The focus is really cool, it's gonna revolutionize gimble and other light weight or hand held set ups. I got thinking, why does the focus wheel have to be a wheel? Don't get me wrong I'm grateful to have it, but what if it were a straight line UI, swipe up the screen focus goes out toward infinity, swipe down the screen focus comes back in toward closest focus point. It seems this would be easier to do with out looking at your iPod or iPhone, if your eyes are on say a monitor. Would be cool to have the option to pick a wheel style or a "line" style UI when focusing.

I think you can expand on that idea and when you are "racking" to a saved point you can use the line to control the position from the current focus position (bottom of bar) to the selected rack point (top of bar). This lets you control the speed of the rack while guaranteeing you end at the correct point.
 
Main reason for going circular was greater precision

A single rotation would offer much more travel distance than a straight line on a small screen and if you set foolcontrol to 2,3 or more rotation this is when it really start to be very precise...

I understand your idea of an alternative UI that would be linear and will look into it and see if it can also be designed to be accurate for 4K+ focusing...
 
Another day, another shoot with Foolcontrol. I feel naked without it already.

It also creates a unique 'fingerprint' on your phone which makes me chuckle :)

Pardon my ignorance: Would this be an RF (more reliable signal?) alternative to wifi via Redlink/Hotbox?
And to run Foolcontrol OSX and/or IOS?

longer range : yes
OS X + iOS : yes

Nope, as said earlier, price will go up at some point when lots of features are added, but not going down anytime soon.
Early adopters get the best deal : get it cheaper and use it before everyone else.
If you use it everyday for 6 months it costs less than a dollar per day, then it's free !

Ok - gotta figure out how to squeeze it in then.
 
Mikael - will we always be eligible for free upgrades if we purchase now? I guess I'm making sure that it won't be $200 every time a new major update comes out. Thanks!
 
No, like all my other apps, this one will get a lot of free updates...
Until the day I do a major rewrite or vastly different software. FWIW i never made a paid upgrade yet since foolcat was released 3+ years ago.
Altho I'm trying to make a living out of this new work I'm stepping into I'm trying to be fair and avoid overpriced apps or upgrades.

I may actually do a more expensive release of my app for rental houses or people who will want to install on a fleet of devices for multi users and who will want to be be fair and support foolcolor beyond the owner/operator license which I'm selling now.
