  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Pictures

My brother the tiff "is not found".

Nevermind.... now it is cooking. Thanks Evin!

Damn... it's FrankenBrook... moody as hell, very nice guys, would love to see the qt sometime to checkout the noise pattern in movement.

It's amazing. I go to sleep (NYC Time here) and 26 pages of RED ONE unboxing photos are loaded!

Tonaci, Thanks for the surprise! Now you can re-shoot that wonderful restaurant promo of yours! BTW what happened? Its not online anymore...
Cheers,
G

Amazing! Thanks for sharing the test shots.

Can't get smooth playback with this H.264. All others play fine, and the 2k Res CROSSING THE LINE trailer played like butter output to 42/1080p LCD.

Hmm.

Anyway, thanks you guys for the user footage!

Thanks a lot guys. A true humanitarian gesture to those whose number won't be coming up for quite a while. Looking forward to more stuff, cause December's a long way off.

Poor Graeme... he's spent two years educating us on why we don't want or need edge sharpening, and what happens to the first still out the door? Why is there even a "sharpening" setting in the app?

Well, everyone begged for the first images and footage to be stress tests of the sensor at the ragged edge of under exposure... and you got it.

Now on to the nicely exposed and properly lit footage...

The 2k H264 looks great to me, but might I suggest - don't be afraid to go nutzoid on the bitrates. Playing back to a 1080p monitor, the resolution looked great, but the macroblocking was pretty obvious. I'd sugest at least an 8Mb average, but preferably something in the high Teens.

Thanks again for all the updates!

I've been a follower (and believer!) of RED since its first rumors on many forums. Just wanted to chime in with a post saying congrats RED Team and thanks for the guys uploading images and footage. Can't wait for more!

ROCK THE F*@!k ON YOU GLORIOUS BASTARDS!!!

and thanks.

okay.. very little sleep. but who can sleep at a time like this?
last night I forgot to give props where props are due.

Blair.. thanks so much for being so damn cool about letting us touch your baby.

Evin..the LENS MASTA and Brook the RED NINJA...incredible to work with.

We shot with Zeiss standard primes and the footage was spectaculoso. What a freakin relief. The Zeiss super 16mm needs to go to the shop for tweaking up..so not sure if we have anything worth showing from it.

I know you all want more so I will review some stuff..and post up in a bit here. the most exciting, was definitely the night shooting. in regards to the nightcan shot.. it was REALLY dark out there..really dark. plus we pushed it to iso 2000..and did not have time to do the best adjustments in post.
I never thought this kind of shooting would be possible. more to come in bit.

Thats either compression basically saying "ah thats almost all the same so I'll compress it more" or there is alot of detail there still but the kbs set can't carry it off at the rez.

so yes.. really really doubt thats what came out of the camera!

It's definitely a matter of the H264 encode, which according to the Quicktime info is less than 4Mb average. If that blocking was coming out of the camera, there'd be a lot of 4k footage of Red users committing hari kari. ;) That's why it's 8 seconds of footage that's only 30MB. It's great to see as much footage as possible, and I know webspace and bandwidth is always and issue, but if future posts double (or preferably, triple) the bitrate, that blocking will pretty much go away.

none that any of us could see even on the 16mm.
good news.. i believe next time stephen should pay us a beer before posting anything on subject.. :) they are a lot of beers!

and about audio.. is it already able in-camera?..
