  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

First Look - Schneider Xenon FF-Prime Lenses

Alex, I'm very interested in seeing the 100mm front...could you possibly post a photo or two of your 18-35? I've also been thinking about combining the 18-35 with the Xenons, and they have a 100mm front diameter. It would certainly be a lot more convenient to not have to change the mattebox adapter ring every time I put the zoom on or took it off...

Hi Tom. Sorry about the late reply. The first pic below is the original 18-35 with 95mm, and the second pic is my modified lens with 100mm front.
Cheers

Looks awesome, Alex...great idea! Definitely going to keep this in mind!

Good review from Magnanimous Media...thx!

Alex, is it just an attachment screwed on the regular lens. I should have asked for this too.

No it was a custom piece, similar to the 95mm front, but fatter. It is one piece, not two pieces screwed together. I asked Nan about this and he quote $150. Sounded like a good deal so I went for it.

I have a pre-order on those two lenses and I have not heard about them yet.

Did not follow closely, was the 75mm wide open problem fixed or still weird looking?

That would be great. I was just told after NAB for the 100, followed by the 25...

Thank you very much

Fury

Has anybody compared the Schneider Xenon 50/T2.1 with the new Zeiss 55/1.4 lens?

Just tested my new Schneiders on my buddie's movi. It's like the perfect lens set for movi use. As soon as we put it on it was pretty much balanced. ;) we used ultra primes, Cooke s4's (yes s4's), rokinon and cp2's and the Schneiders literally feel like they were made for epic movi use. Didn't need to rebalance at all after each lens change. Pan, pitch, yaw all still zeroed out. And the images from it was so pleasing from the lenses, we tested both day and night ext. Really happy with these lenses, and really happy when I do movi stuff I can use my Schneiders and not have to rent cp2's. Now if only I can get the 25 and 100!

I've seen an 18mm listed from a lens broker on CML, but when I emailed Hot Rod Cameras to ask what they knew I didn't get a response. Anyone hear anything from FilmTools or Duclos regarding the 6th focal length? Mostly interested in seeing images from it and the 25mm... but would love a confirmation of existence, price and release date from the actual vendors regarding an 18mm.

Phil, are you holding out on us? :wink5:

The Xenon appeared softer than the CP2 50 1.4 at T2, so can't imagine it could compete wide open with the OTUS (which is staggeringly sharp even wide open). That said, the Xenon's have a very pleasing render to them, which in the end is likely more important.

Good catch. I have been. Here's everything I know:

- The 100mm T2.1 is shipping relatively soon (not a macro). Likely less than two months.
- The 25mm T2.1 is about two months out.
- The 135mm T2.1 will be shipping approximately Fall 2014.
- The 18mm T2.4 will be shipping early-ish 2015.

Around NAB you will be able to place orders for the 135mm and 18mm via The Schneider Xenon FF-Prime Reduser Filmtools Group Buy/Discount. Final pricing and discounts need to be worked out, but that will get worked out post-NAB.

I'm still overseeing the discount/deal as I believe it's good offer.

Wow, and a 135!

Slight bummer that the 18mm is at least a year out. But, we can't be too bent out of shape about it's timing since it really was never discussed previously. Ever so slightly disappointing to see a T/2.4 but to that I guess I'd just say at least it's not a 3.2 or worse considering it's coverage area. And I'm sure we can speculate it'll fall in line price-wise with the 25mm just under $6000.

Yep. The 18mm has been a big mountain to climb for them. I spoke to the designers over a year ago and they were going to initially make the concession of going with a 20mm T2.1, but the 18mm is so much more desired by many people. They could make it a T2.1, but the cost increase and physical size increase wouldn't exactly be ideal for this series. Quality wides are a difficult thing to do. I'm happy we're getting a full frame 18mm overall. The 135mm is a good addition and makes a ton of sense from the larger sensor perspective.

So the way the set will look once all is said and done is:

18mm T2.4
25mm T2.1
35mm T2.1
50mm T2.1
75mm T2.1
100mm T2.1
135mm T2.1

I have suggested a 180mm or 200mm to top it off, but that's likely a ways away.

A 20mm would have satiated that small amount of OCD some of us carry, ha!

In all seriousness, I'll be very happy to round out the lens set with a proper full frame 18mm.

Thanks for the update, Phil - very much appreciated.
