ok its been some time now since apple released the newest version of FCP ive read a lot of threads about the new software just want other peoples opinion about it now that some time has gone by perhaps there's some cool stuff about the new version. as for my opinion it really sucks it sort of like a glorified version of imovie

Search REDUser and you'll probably get all the feedback you need. Most people seem to... uh... dislike it (to put it somewhat mildly). I am not among them - I like it a lot... but that's just me. :-)

I like it too. The more I use it, the more I see the potential it has as a brand new platform. Don't let the name fool you, this is a NEW platform from scratch. It is NOT imovie like so many are saying. You either like it or you don't. This is just software, its not a religion.

I like FCP X.

I use Premiere Pro CS 5.5 for all my work now.

Why?

There is no support for broadcast output in FCP X today

There is no native RED workflow in FCP X

When those problems are solved, then I can try and use FCP X for work, until those features arrive, FCP X is an interesting experiment to me.

I'll tell you what though ... I think Adobe and Avid should be scrambling to look for ways to improve the editing experience. Some purists will argue that it isn't needed ... but I think its very very clear that whether or not FCP X is ever a viable product, Apple has shown that there are a large number of deficiencies in the status quo of non-linear editing.

I´ve started using it on some project and now with XML export to DaVinci and some ways to get OMF out its looking a lot better. I really like the new way of editing. Been so frustrated with the old way of editing, it takes many steps to do simple stuff and you have to learn the hard way by making many mistakes (tracks). FCPX is much nicer when it comes to plain editing, its simple and you don´t mess things up the same way you did before. I can´t wait enough for Broadcast Monitor output though. Would like some better exporting features when it comes to QuickTime-output and metadata/XML. Apple is heading in the right direction. The Roles feature is going to be nice. Hopefully 3:rd parties can use it in a great way.

I say, start learing FCPX now. It will be the standard in editing in 5 years.

" as for my opinion it really sucks it sort of like a glorified version of imovie".

I find this is far more often the opinion of those people who have not used it. Don't believe the hype - and as you get a month's free trial to see it for yourself, it seems silly not to try it yourself.

It's not a fully fledged tool yet, but if you used RCX to export ProRes, and want to see the future of editorial, take a good look.

On the nose with this one!! We will see on Nov 3 if Avid has made any updates. I use all three and find FCPX to be smooth as far as editing goes. Ive been an Avid and Premiere user far longer than FCP legacy.

FCPX - own it, love it

Adobe and Avid can learn some things about UI from this version.

Haven't tried it yet. A question for those who have/are, can you keep your FCP 7 and also run FCPX to test drive?

Yes but there are some folks reporting problems.
I havent ran into any yet.

The Avid UI is an abysmal effing mess. And for all the, "Avid editors use the keyboard," there are numerous things that I have to use the MOUSE for that I shouldn't have to. I like Avid, use it and defend it. But that is despite a UI that is a total embarassment... and I'm holding back on what I REALLY think.

The good news is that MC 6 should be an improvement. Will it just catch up MC to a Windows-3.1-like environment or actually been a real advancement in how we edit, I'm thinking the former. But the former would be a lot better than the present.

i use both however when i use avid to finsh my projects people are always like wow verses nice. quality seems to be better to me specaliy if u use 444 when you color correct. maybe i am crazy but im just going by what people tell me and they have no clue what is done on what

Well, got to see the new UI. Not even a Windows 3.1 level, e.g. no dockable windows. Comical but not funny.

I have used FCP through a number of versions and can say that FCP X is by far the easiest to use and a vast improvement.

I edited one project with it as an experiment. I wanted to make sure I gave it a full fair try. I did the same thing with premiere 5.5 (and I'd used earlier versions of premiere a lot).

I really like FCPX. When it can easily get my files to After Effects and an audio app (which btw someone on reduser said they wrote a plug in which does this) - then I would definitely consider moving to it full time. The color correction... I'd want to use something else like color. I really miss moving to SoundTrack Pro very easily though (something I miss when I used Premiere as well. However, FCPX does have a lot of STP's functionality... I just like Sound Track Pro and I'm sad to see it go by way of absorption.

So I still use FCP 7. If I HAD to stop, I could use Premiere, but I wasn't that impressed with the R3D integration nor the After Effects "fluid path" work flow... just didn't work how I'd want or expect it. And I find FCP more intuitive.

But, as I said, if FCPX does what you need (and it does do a lot) then it's a great program.

I am the one who considered doing an audio export for FCP X but now that all autoDuck plugs are free I guess I won't be able to compete !
Get the Pro export 5.1 from their site and here you have OMF export out of FCP X !
You can also export AAF with linked video files then use their other tools to import the AAF into FCP 7 or AE... importing video this way is mostly for very basic edits as many features won't be translated (speed effects, any fix or keyframed parameter like pos, scale etc) but it is free !

If you want to go beyond the basic export check my foolcut_ae script, for 89 USD it lets you export to AE with a lot more features : geometrics (fix or animated), audio levels, flip-flop, retimed clips, compound clips and it also relink offline RED clips automatically, and offers to rescale everything to high res (5K, 4K...) preserving all your reframing, position intact at the new size.

check out the demo version
