Just downloading in Canada now.

Looks like soundtrack and color are gone for good :

"Editing, sound and color. Together all in one app.
Final Cut Pro X includes the key sound editing and color grading features from Final Cut Studio, so now you can use a single application for the entire post-production workflow."

They also released compressor 4 and Motion 5 for 50 USD each.

NO R3D SUPPORT

It is strange how FCP changed from being the first platform to allow proxy R3D editing, to now being the only major platform that doesn't support native editing.

I have tried to stay optimistic about FCP, but it is getting hard. Really hard.

Final Cut Pro X is compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 2, and iPod touch (4th generation).
Apple can claim as much as they want to that they are supporting the pros -- but their marketing speaks a totally different language...

Dumbed down

Dumbed down

I want to get my hands on a copy to test it soon, but everything I see makes it look horribly dumbed down. Editing has been made easier for non-editors, from what I can see. Maybe, just maybe, this is a real revolution and we don't need to set In and Out points anymore. But I doubt it. With Color gone (or reduced to some sort of panel), this does not look like a professional tool. Hopefully in a few years I will look like a dinosaur for having being so resistant, but I can't help thinking that this software will fall right out of use for professionals. The iPhone crowd will probably love it though, and I'm sure that's all that matters.

Have Red stopped talking to Apple? They seemed like good friends when Red were first on the scene. Is this a parting of the ways?

BTW - if you need to send mixes to Pro Tools from FCP X:

http://automaticduck.com/products/pefcp/

Looks like XML, EDL and other project I/O is going to be supported by 3rd party developers. Not Apple.

Also what size is 4K? Is it limited at 4,000 or 4,096 or some other size?

Wow; I didn't honestly believe that Apple would bail on having R3D support at launch.

From everything else I'm hearing, this release should have been called "iMovie Plus".

I predict that Avid and Adobe are going to be getting a lot of market-share back...

PS - I notice Apple had time to implement iPhone support though. Nice to know I can edit from your phone but not my Red. Way to send a message that this is a "pro" product Apple!

No .r3d support... kinda sad. I wonder if FCP will be more open to allow 3rd party developers to add support into their engine. Doubt it.

On the other hand, I think the other integration will be great.
