I wish they'd get the gamma in QuickTime/ FCP right before they start messing around with skin tone for iPhone cameras.

"In the RED world EPIC may be late, but in the real world it's about 5 years early."

In the near future... the same companies that told you 1080P "was good enough" will release 4K cameras and tell you a new story. Mark my words.

Can't remember the exact wording, but the quote from Jim went something like "To say that Scarlet is nothing more than a crash camera, well, that is just so Baywatch."

[Gunleik Groven]

Jim, commenting on all the Big movies and their need for cameras:

Fortunately... they all aren't starting right now.

For those of you that can't quite comprehend the complexity of what we are trying to do... consider that there are 70 boards and 11,000 pieces on an EPIC-X (with modules).

Just food for thought while you are waiting...

Let me try this another way... expose HDRx™™ just as you would as if it were turned off. No different. In most cases, just like with a RED ONE M-X, your highlights are fine. On the rare occasion that something is blowing out, just turn on HDRx™™ and don't change your exposure.

There are a couple of simple facts...

The ACTUAL MEASURED resolution of the very best 1080P camera (Sony F35) is 1,625,625 pixels.

The very best MEASURED RESOLUTION from slow speed S35mm film from a 4K scan is 5,760,000 pixels. That is 3.5 times the measured resolution of the very best 1080P camera.

EPIC actual MEASURED RESOLUTION is 8,847,360 pixels. That is about 5.5 times more resolution than the very best 1080P camera.

Once again, simple facts.

Photoshop future:

No EPIC R3D support in photoshop yet.. they are working on it. I love Adobe.

My all time favorite:

Jacek, you have just unleashed the Sanjin. Standby for oversized images and more colored links than you can possibly imagine.

We generally record to HDCAM or HDCAM SR straight from the camera and use that as dailies at the moment.

I like this quote... -

[paulherrin]

in reference to the sensors being traded in...

Jim eats them like Pringles. 4k sensor a day, keeps the doctor away.

[Stefan Antonescu]

Please, just give the guy the respect he has earned and try accepting his decisions to share, or not share, as he tries to do the impossible.

A nice one about Jim...

in response to Mark's (OFFHOLLYWOOD) 00006 Epic stolen while on vacation

When the British government loses something in the Alps, they send in 007.

The family is safe and no one was hurt.

there's a lot of funny quotes here. many are inspiring. and i love them.

but my new favorite quote is the collective voice of this family of friends who know what's important, and who, together, have begun to support our dear friend and brother Mark through this emotional time, and will continue to do so. these things remind us what it's all about. i thank you guys.

[Martin Weiss]

EPIC will hit the ground running.

We have sent out EPIC data and dummy models to several companies making 3D rigs and UW housings. One company has begun development on a new module. I expect more to follow.
