  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Facebook...

I'm Aspartame free... a good thing. And there is also something coming after Facebook.

Jim

Hello?! What's this? Something like the re-emergence of My Space?

I only recently joined Facebook a few months ago thinking I had to in order to connect with people to get the assistance I need. Turns out I've found that through other means and Facebook has been no benefit at all. I will be deleting my account now that I realize that it is only dead weight and potentially hazardous to any privacy I might require. I can socialize plenty in person. Too much virtual socializing can get in the way of work.

Facebook is once again being sued for tracking its users even after they logout of the service. The latest class action lawsuit demands $15 billion from Facebook for violating federal wiretap laws. (link)

Why you shouldn't buy Facebook shares. (link)

As someone who lives in a different country to most of my friends and family... Facebook has changed my life, I now feel a part of their lives again.

They might be a bit dodgy.... But they changed the world.

same over here, but I almost never post anything there, just send some sporadic mails. but if it wasn`t facebook I would use simple e-mails again...

That is awesome!

There will no doubt be a sequel to the Social Network film one day. After the scandals, uncompromising photos of Mark and some girl, the demise of the company, after the twins finally get their revenge, video of Mark running naked down the street.... We know how this is going to end.

Jim, sometimes I imagine you founding a car company and going against all car and oil corporations.

The first model would be the:

EV ONE – first car to run only on ion lithium batteries, first comercial car to weight less tham 1200lb (using new materials never used on large scale on cars). First car to have upgradable chassis (obsolescence obsolete - you can keep your chassis forever and upgrade motor, wheels, batteries, body and interior when needed/wanted). US MADE for US$ 17500

I remember you saying once that you started RED to make your wife proud of you. This would make humanity proud of you for generations. I cannot think of anyone else that could start this revolution.

I could do the same in 18 months. All i need is just ONE private meeting with Larry King. Too bad.

Facebook makes money by selling your info. What a concept.

Jim

Austrian standup comedian Michael Niavarani called FB :`STASI (= East Germany´s KGB) on voluntary basis´.

Besides that: if you announce your absence for holidays on FB and your home gets robbed, insurance will not pay :)

And believe it Jim, the world is desperatley awaiting this dawn.

Is that a cryptic way of saying RED will be publicly traded one day?! How exciting that would be if you guys retained utmost control.

RED is sticky. RED is expansive. People come to RED and never look back, for great reason. Facebook...not so much.

Aspartame was a great warning. If it wasn't for you I would have kept on suggesting supposedly "diet" things to my family and friends... Now, I avoid it like the plague !

Curious to know what you mean by "after Facebook"... :)

So does Google, Yahoo, Apple, and any number of other Internet companies. They're just a bit less obvious about it. Why single out Facebook, when essentially the entire backbone of the Internet operates the same way? The Internet ceased to be a commercial free, open information sharing entity years ago, and it has never been about creating actual physical products. And while things like Wikipedia have allowed instant access to a lot of useful information, they have also contributed to creating a generation with an inflated sense of entitlement and access to "free stuff." Only it isn't and never has been free. The price we pay for it is exemplified by what all of the companies I mentioned represent, which is a distinct loss of privacy and huge fortunes based on no actual, tangible product. And if that sounds an awful lot like things like financial derivatives that contributed rather largely to the financial meltdown we still haven't seriously recovered from, the resemblance is completely intentional.

My thoughts exactly....

If they are all the same why is it that I find Google, Yahoo, etc. very (extremely) useful for my every day work and at the same time Facebook completely useless in the same realm. They are absolutely not the same, while there is a data mining resemblance.
I personally find posts like this diluting the original intention of this thread and this generalization very misleading... IMO

facebook may not be useful to you... but it is to 900 million other people on a daily basis.
