  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Facebook...

It's more than 900 million. In a couple years, 1 out of every 2 people on earth will be on facebook or the next generation of it. I believe it's 1 of 6 right now. How do they ever come up with these stats? I think that stock is inflated like the housing market used to be.

Mark Z brought 900 million people together… then took all their money and put it in his pocket. :-)

I never joined and never had the will to join facebook. RU on the other hand... I'm freaking addicted to it from day one!
Oh well...

Just look at FB's market cap vs other companies at that level; can you say reality check?

Cheers - #19

that pretty much sums it up....people were estimating $70 a share and up which would have made it bigger then google...
facebook EPS $0.40....... google $34.70
hype....

Zuckerberg just sold his and Facebooks popularity. Even big banks agreed to make 50% less money from this transaction than is usual, just because of prestige! LOL :D

Real price for FB stock should be $10 (if you compare it to Apple and Google stock indicators)

To claim an interest, I have been in social media for over 21 years, and signed up on Facebook long before it opened beyond Harvard students and alumni. From this perespective, I am reminded of an anecdote told by Jerry Weintraub:
Samuel and Rose Weintraub came west to visit their older son, the one who would not go into the gem trade, to see what kind of life he had made for himself. “Now I have a big mansion in Beverly Hills, a Rolls, a chauffeur, fresh flowers, butlers, swimming pools—everything,” Jerry told me. “My mom and dad arrive, and I pick them up with my driver, and my mom is beaming. We get to my house and we’re serving caviar, Havana cigars for my father, and champagne—the whole deal. After a couple of days of this, my dad says, ‘I want to talk to you. Let’s take a walk.’ We get outside and he says, ‘I want to ask you a question and I want you to tell me the truth and I don’t want any bullshit from you. Are you in the Mafia? How did you get all this? You were never that smart.’ ”
I’m creative. I did it.
Where’s your inventory? How can you have this much money and not have an inventory? It doesn’t make sense to me.
“The next day I made arrangements. My mother’s favorite was Cary Grant. And horses. We drove to Hollywood Park [racetrack] and Cary Grant was waiting for us. He opened the door and looked at my mother and said, ‘Rose, I’m your date for lunch.’
“They had lunch and he made her bets for her and sat with her. I don’t think my father liked it so much. That evening I made a dinner party with all the stars. And Cary came. I remember going to the bar, and my mom was having a glass of champagne. And Sinatra came up and said, ‘Hey, Rose, I heard you had a great date for lunch today.’ And she said, ‘Yeah, but I like my Sammy better.’ ”
— Rich Cohen, “Jerry Weintraub Presents!”, Vanity Fair, March 2008
In the instant conversation, I am struck by the preponderance of cutting edge XXIst century cinematographers channeling an itinerant Jewish jeweler from a century ago. Lighten up. Everyone serves as inventory to all sorts of entities, from governments to maggots. No one leaves this world uneaten. My favorite strategy is enjoying the set and its setting whilst pacing my consumption, as an agent and patient alike.

Btw Facebook is awesome and very useful thing for socialzing, getting news and knowledge. And its very helpful for keeping in touch with your family which is on the other end of the world! Its just the tool and if you dont know how to safely use it dont blame Zuckeberg, blame yourself :). I dont expect from FB anything more than it is, no bussines or something serious, just a fun smalltalk and keeping in touch your friends without wasting much time and energy. FB popularity will change overnigt with next hype coming. Just one click and everybody will move somewhere else and FB will be instantly dead. Internet popularity is paintfully short. Thats why the shareholders already sold it on the stockmarket. :) :)

If you ever gave any private info on the internet dont blame anybody but yourself! It´s dumbiest thing you can ever did! Ever ...
Even our toddlers know that its big no no to answer every stupid question if the internet is asking :)

I realy enjoy my FB account, but I bit doubt that Zuckerberg can enjoy any valuable info from it :D
I use only nickname, I dont add old school friends, people from my job or my bosses. Im just saying no, I dont want you there, its my private thing. You can allways have several FB accounts. I have extra email just for FB. I never ever added any FB apps. If you add them you are instanly agreeing to open doors to another watchdog. Dont forget allways cancel and click off all stupid and dangerous settings and services.

btw Im bit older than average FB user :)

Facebook requires you to use your real name and forbids providing any false personal information, creating an account for anyone other than yourself without permission, and creating more than one personal profile.

Just sayin'.

Huh, pretty dumb, dont you think?! :)
Hey wake up, its internet, and internet is simply NOT SAFE!!!
I still dont get it, zillions of people gave them their private data for free and now they are all moaning and calling them an evil company ... just LOL, LOL. I guess it was pretty unsafe to have your real indentity on FB during arabian spring in Libya, Egypt. Syria or Iran, etc.
Its also pretty sad how people are naive. I had to live several years in country with communist regime and I highly value my privacy and my freedom. I know their value.

My friends changed their nicknames 10 times and are still there. Another one changed his name to Bin Laden a was banned only for one month :)) Now he is using FB again. :))

Thinking that because you haven't explicitly typed in your name, address, and Social Security number that Facebook a) doesn't already have that information, and b) isn't collecting other valuable information about you, is very naive. Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and a number of other entities probably know more about you than you might know about yourself. Your habits while online, what you click on, what you don't, how often you're there, where you log on from, what you log on from, what you type, what you don't, who you visit, who you don't, all produce reams and reams of information. Each of those things individually might seem rather innocuous, but taken together they can give a very accurate portrait of what and who you are. If you think it takes a Census to get information about you, think again. The only way to avoid yielding private information about yourself is to never go on line. The ONLY way. Because once you're there, everything you do is recorded somewhere. Its existence is fact. How it's used is what's either dangerous or not. But the notion of "online security" is just as much of an oxymoron as "jumbo shrimp" or "military intelligence." That's not pleasant or reassuring to think about, but it is absolutely true.

Well, it's down $13 billion dollars today on it's way to the proper .75 cents per share.

I guess the Ponzi scheme is off to a great start.

He he, and this is so very true, good thing is that I could literally care less of my information, as I could not be more public then I already am... ;)

But yeah, people not to think or know otherwise while online, must be pretty naive or plain ignorant.

If they are all the same why is it that I find Google, Yahoo, etc. very (extremely) useful for my every day work and at the same time Facebook completely useless in the same realm. They are absolutely not the same, while there is a data mining resemblance.
I personally find posts like this diluting the original intention of this thread and this generalization very misleading... IMO

Maybe that's just you!!!

I have had NO use for Yahoo for years.
But I use Facebook as part of my business and for communications on a daily basis.
Facebook (for me and 900 million other people) is one of the best things to come out of the www.

I know that most people here are too "old" for Facebook, since getting a RED camera isn't something one does in their teen years. But because I am young and Facebook has been a big part of my life so far, I would say that Facebook has just as much of an impact on film making as RED has. Facebook has allowed me to stay in connection with friends and make new contacts in the film industry. Where collaboration and communication is a big part of film making, Facebook has made it easier and better for young independent filmmakers like me. Also while Facebook recently made its stock open to the public, I'm not paying a dime or seeing any ads on my Facebook profile. It's a generation thing that I don't expect anyone past the age of 25 to understand.

You patronising little whippersnapper :-) LOL.

I'm nearly 50 and I use FB for all the same reasons you mention.

Damn youngsters :-)
