  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

If you are reading this and wouldn't mind posting, would you have any other insight on this? How much might it slow down the release if it would at all? Anything?

I think it would definitely be worth the extra $1000, or maybe RED could offer a module with HDRx or two different models of the 2/3 (one w/HDRx and one w/o). Also I want to say thanks for the opportunity for the option. :) I can't think of another company that would do that.
 
I don't see that anyone has asked this yet... here goes nothing:

Is there any other benefit that an HDRx upgrade to the Scarlet would offer? Frame rates for standard shooting mode to 180fps for example?

What about body size? Would the increase in boards make Scarlet and Epic the same basic body size, eliminating the need for the $300 step-down adapter?

Scarlet will scale down to a full resolution 2k digital cinema image in both 1.85:1 standard wide screen and 2.40:1 scope. For 4k you start with more than twice the resolution before up scaling that you have with 1080p.

True, 3K means more resolution but still marginal 4K, according to Jim Jannard: "Measured resolution of Scarlet 3K (3072) will be about 2.5K, which is just a tad short of high speed film from a 4K scan. It is in an odd place. We feel that it may marginally make a 4K output (about as well as a 5D makes a 1080P output)."
 
just getting on the bandwagon now, haven't been able to read the nearly 600 frigging replies to this thread but i guess it sounds like they're (RED) going to throw it in scarlets for an extra cost of a grand (glad i missed the vote because i'm still torn between the two, but in the end...)

i think we're all on this forum because we agree RED knows what's up, they know we'll bitch at any image that isn't perfect (that Brett guy and the bitch against slo-mo greenscreen quality, taking it a little too far... props on his ban) so they're willing to risk the slight loss in sales (to the prosumer level folk'll) because of the added cost at the benefit of anyone in agreement of a gorgeous image who tend to shoot in natural light/need that brutally balanced image.

i'm still young so saving up an extra grand for it is going to be a pain in the ass yeah, but in all honesty this has gotten me much more stoked on grabbing a scarlet. i'm pretty astonished at REDs commitment to 'pre-customer service', i haven't spent a dime on their products but i feel like they know they've teased us so much that they pretty much have to keep us updated on major details/ask our input on matters like hdrx, and so they thankfully do.
