Will the FF1080p mode have a full debayer output in HDSDI @ 24fps/25fps

I did that question on the 3rd December feedback thread...

No answer whatsoever, it seems that the noise was very high in that thread...

So to the point:

I understand that EPIC FF35 has a FF1080 mode, the I/O module will it be capable to give us, when the frame rate is one of the standard frame rates like 24p, 25p, 29.97p etc., full quality debayer HDSDI output (single link or dual link) in the redspace color space?

Can also have embedded VITC timecode and embedded audio?

Is there any chance Deanan or Stuart can say 'yes, no or maybe soon' to this? I'm getting asked this a lot following the Dec 3 announcements. I guessed it was possible based on the RED RGB codec, so may be a software solution on the RED One.

It would be great to know one way or another - there's so much noise here at the moment...

But still a week after no reply...

Thats not a good sign for the question asked, it probably means that:

"Hmm... we don't know, it probably wont have a full debayer 1080 output..."


Even a half debayer will do the trick...

Since the modules have power and space to fit extra dedicted proccesing power, why not... make a special one...
It would be a major advantage for many applications even in broadcast studio apps... or external broadcast... (and a wild one... have a triax output...)

Thing about it Jim... is a very good use of your modular idea...

I would love to see this full 1080p output coming alive. Otherwise I'm obligated to invest in panas for ob applications. But I'd rather hate that because of the lack of recording higher resolutions. The output would mostly perform in my situation as a feed to the obvan for directing the whole show and be able to do some measuring on it and serving the audience in the meantime with a ledwall.

This would be a real winner if the reds could handle broadcast aswell.

What about the luts, will it be possible to get a certain look right out of the camera, if not I suppose the new cinetal davio could do this for us at a little increase of the costs..

But the main purpous would still be get the highest quality out as possible for post in my situation, but if the client request it , be able to give him live throughput at the same time.

IT would even be better if we could record 4to 6K and at the same time have this 1080p output with a lut applied to it.

Based on what we have seen so far, and even allowing for leaps in technology that we see almost daily, my best guess is that the next generation brains will be able to process out a scaled half-debayer on the fly to 1080P at up to 30fps. For broadcast work this should be more than enough image information for any standard I can imagine being widely adopted in the next decade.

In terms of closed circuit applications like image magnification for concerts, it would be uber cool to have a 4K feed with low latency. I assume this would require a dedicated outboard processor and I think the engineering required to avoid a delay of a frame or more that would ruin lip sync would be very challenging. Hope someone can prove me wrong on that, I'll eat my hat (chocolate please :usd: ).

Do you mean record RAW while sending 1080P to a separate deck like an SRW1? That deck will cost more to rent than the RED camera would...

Yeah, but codex is coming with some nice sollutions, giving you the option to record 4k, 2x dual hdsdi 444, or 4x hd sdi 4 2 2

I was strating to write this about two hours ago... :

"Half debayer is OK... since 2K is half debayer...

There are some multi processors in a chip with the performance of three eight core MacPro's out there... if the wanna do it, they will... it could be expensive... 4K - 7K but it will be a breakthrough...

In the past this was out of question due to physical limitations (thermal dissipation, space etc.), with the new design Jim introduced, this is totally doable...

An EOS camera is doing this, when it save jpg's... and it using the cheapest processors for this job... and it can save up to 15fps in full res..."


Yes David, while it records to CF module to have an HDSDI full quality output either RGB or YUV (444 or 422) to record in an SRW or HDcam or AVC-Intra... it will make the nervous producer syndrome to vanish... P2 mobile with AVC-Intra costs 15K$... its nothing... if you going to eliminate the nervous producer syndrome...!

LUT's would be perfect...
