  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Every once in awhile...

Be carreful Jim , the history proved that , the people who change the history ,always had a lot of strong powerful haters , who could try to ......bad things , and we and i need the way you are changing things and the rules .

I think we have enough people supporting the change, it's done, too late, regardless of how powerful some of these folks might be. XBOX 4K ... SONY 4K ... Who came up with 4K? Oh right, JJ and JL. They have been 100 moves ahead of the comp. for a long time, nothing has changed.

And yes the Alexa is a nice camera, not for me.

The future will be quite a bit different than what we know as "now". Everyone will need to adjust. That is what professionals do.

In the end... it is all about the image. Sorry to be so cryptic. In this day and age, that is the best I can do. But I am more excited than ever for what is about to unfold.

Jim

Let me guess - Conventional laws that govern image capture don't exist anymore and new terms have be defined... REDefined.Say good bye to limitations. Rules don't apply here!

Don't think is about Dragon. It sexy and we know it. Already. I think it relates to something other - workflow, software or maybe (very much doubt that) NEW sensor type.
Sure RED working on the eliminating bayer-pattern pick-up technique. Maybe it is some kind of multilayer sensor like other company trying to do? Not sure.

Enough conspiracy - throw us a bone :))) please, ha-ha.

Me either, do you have 120k to drop on the Alexa anyway? :)

Even if I did reason I wouldn't buy...

1 Not upgradeable.
2 Bomb Squad... need I say more...
3 Pushing past limits instead of staying comfortable.
4 Arri "allegedly" tried to steal tech from RED, so who's leading???
5 Again it's a nice camera, but for factor modularity... Et cetera, et cetera... And Who is cooler than Jim, Jarred, Brent, Graeme, Whitney, the rest of the Bomb Squad and their customer service. Small crew working overtime in order to keep prices reasonable.

I wonder if Jim is referring to this....

http://blog.abelcine.com/2012/09/27/aaton-unveils-the-delta-penelope-camera/

I would KILL for an optical viewfinder, No ND filters Needed and hey the virtual 7k sounds intriguing, but I wonder what it will cost???

I'm sure what your working on is way better Jim, but damn that optical viewfinder has got me longing for the old days.. even if they were Bolex and Egg Layer ( Eclair)

Oh Jim... With these posts it's a thin line between love and hate.. However, the needles is always firmly in the love side of things, we just hate having to wait for the official news! Who am I fooling, I'm really excited for the future!!

Why they call it Penelope? Pandora would be better :) With all this mechano bells and whistles might be freaking expensive... over $100K for sure. Moving sensor rig - sounds scary....

For what its worth my Bolex still works like a swiss clock and it is older than you ;)

But what if Reds next camera had an Optical view finder? We can dream can't we..........

I would love to see Penelope in person, to me the cameras are tools each has its strengths and weaknesses and I fear that this thing is going to be over $100k as a package and that would make it a rental for me, but I can see many instances where I would want both my RED and something like this and use the tool that works best.

Oh my other pipe dream, get Apples electrical engineers to bring down the Epics power draw so a redvolt gets 3hrs :)

On the train, not sure where it is going but sure it will be a great destination.

I think any "power management" could decrease stability of the RED OS (yes we should consider it as a computer and OS)
It is more about Texas Instruments guys to figure out how to improve performance of the next generation RED CPU with using less power.
I'm just guessing cause no one really knows for sure WHO's made that crazy sandwich of Misterium sensor and main CPU :) it has zero labeling apart from 1242 signal processors for REDcode on other boards -
these ones from taiwan and probably designed by RED in house, not sure.

I agree about the name preference!
Small mechanical gears in a high tech camera probably won't hold up to the rigors of the future. With moving bits come calibration headaches...the thought scares me too

RED answered my prayer about an affordable digital camera to replace film -now I can only hope for the same type of REDvolution when it comes to lenses
All aboard the Magic Bus!

Optical finder? We offered that and no one placed an order. BTW... how do you see in the dark with those things?
