Today I am totally excited. Watching the future unfold is thrilling. Being a small part of it is unreal.

I hope I am not over-stating when I say that RED seems to have been a key player in changing the industry over the past 5 years. Hold on... things are just about to get really interesting.

The world is changing at an accelerating pace. There are those that will lead and those that will fall off the back of the bus.

Great times...

Seat buckle is secure and holding on. I love the bus ride!

No. Not overstating at all. Red lit a fire under the collective butts of the other guys making cameras. You started this ride Jim, so we expect that you will lead the way.

Jim,

I love you, but you gotta stop being so cryptic, spill some beans man, come on!

-- and the peasant illegally riding the rear bumper is overwhelmed by a sense of relief as he slithers to a halt in the dust as the bus goes over the edge ---

-- then as he clambers to the slope to see the carnage, he is vexed to discover instead the bus crossing the brook and climbing the other side following a new route.

Such is the nature of pioneering and innovation. It brings with it risk and chance. The bus may become stuck on the opposite greasy clay slope from time to time but as necessity demands, the road will be incrementally improved. In meantime the traveller gets to use it.

This is not to wholly endorse the RED philosphy blindly. There are Henry Ford aspects that discomfort me a little but tellingingly is, that of the big three US motor companies, it was Ford that weathered the recent finanical storm the best.

This makes me wish for the good old early days when Jim could openly talk about what he was working on. Ideas, specs, things changing, getting feedback. It was almost cooler hearing about the stuff that they were working on than getting the actual stuff, as crazy as that may sound.

Now, like he says, people are paying too much attention, and he can't afford to do that anymore.

While I don't check the forum everyday like I did back then, I still swing by once in a while to see if he's let something slip that will keep me up for the rest of the night...

On the Zoetrope forums earlier in the piece, Francis Coppolla would post every now and again. Many would pounce, some with fawning obsequiesence, others with an avalanche of pitches. If is he still posting and giving advice and opinion there, it is likely as an alias. So whilst the madman of old may be less visible, take care who you might debate with illogically and with hostility if you encounter a powerful wit and a bit of determined attitude. There could be something said for treating everyone you meet and greet in this site as as if you were dealing with the man himself.

Keep leading. The industry needs it. And we want it.

But soft, what light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Red is the sun. Arise fair Red, and kill the envious...
Following your light all the way, Jim!

Agreed

Do we need FF or larger lenses to see the future?

Any hints today- just wanted to make sure we are prepared to see the light with the right spectacles...
