Just got the evf and wanted to get the camera in a comfortable handheld position. Taking apart my mantis and using the parts allowed me to get to an aaton style setup. I still have to attach a v-mount plate to the back of the shoulder pad but this setup feels great. I think that you could do something similar with 15mm top rods and a shoulderpad.

Looks great, Shane. I'm sure the V-mount will help, but isn't that setup pretty front heavy?

No, not really. It feels like an sr or Aaton. What I really like about it is that I can easily see the lens with my left eye for focus. Also the center of gravity is lower so it balances a lot better.

Question, With that kind of rig the camera is putting a lot of weight on the arms, or?
We reassembled our clutch the the camera is on the shoulder so the the lens mount is about as far back as my ear, then the camera is in balance and I do not even need my hands on the bars, only use one hand or so to make sure it does not slide off. With a camera in balance on the shoulder I could shoot for a full day, having the camera in front of the shoulder with a big lens I think I would not last more than 20 minutes or so. Check for Fredrik Callingards Titan, on this forum, it's also balanced with I find to work much better. To me the whole concept of having the camera in front of the shoulder comes from using poor SLRS and the need to look into the lcd screen in the back of camera.

Thats exactly what I hate about most of the rigs. The follow focus is right in front of your mouth. Once I put a v-mount plate on the back it should balance up a lot better. But honestly, the weight is not bad at all. I've ordered some pieces from wooden camera to make a different version with 15mm rods but the shoulder pad is exactly where I want it to be: about halfway down from the top of the camera.
I'm 6'2" tall so I don't want the camera to be any higher than that and I want to be able to sight past the mattebox with my left eye.

What I'd really like to see from red is a module that passes the signal from the back of the camera but is half the height of a regular module and has a small shoulder pad on the bottom. Think Aaton form factor.

talking about the SR handle.. i found one on the internet... found it very nice and comfortable for lightweight run-and-gun handheld. Right hand on the handle, left hand on the lens or on the viewfinder. Depending on lens and adding mattebox-ff-motors, the weight in front is very ok. If i had more weight in the front because of these accessories, i would add a big battery to the back, adjustable with 15mm lightweight rods - (19mm versions stick out), and some extra padding to put on the shoulder. The 4 REDVolt battery module and/or i/o module would also be perfect with some padding under it.

Looks very cool. Mantis, the original Clutch for hackers. Is that a spinner for the evf?
Btw, here is link to post with my setup from a few months ago:

Always liked your set up Mike! With Shane's idea (?) to hang a battery plate off the rear of the shoulder pad it would be a nice balance!

Shane PLEASE do show the plate mount once configured OK?

Still trying to sort out a setup for my Scarlet. This all helps.

Filip:
what is the brand of the shoulder pad?

My wooden camera pieces have shipped (ordered today, damn that's fast) so I'll post some photos over the weekend.
And michael , just looked at your old post. Looks like you had pretty much the same idea.
