  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic-W

If it was only a body upgrade for the MX line without extra performances but the new abilities (modules, wifi, weight and size) I would buy for my MX. Small cost because the bodies will be starting to ROI in a few weeks I guess. Basically a new case to match Weapons and I'm in. I don't think that would be it though.

I'm think somewhere below MG and Scarlet W as well.

That was different. That was a chance to jump the line, and get a CF Weapon EARLY. The premium/advantages was understood.

Magnesium owners did not sign up for Magnesium thinking/knowing there would be a discount Magnesium released 6 months later.

I can't imagine RED being willing to alienate their core owner/ops who invested in Magnesium...by releasing the same camera for $10K less 6 months later.

Doesn't make sense.

Exactly. Can you imagine...Magnesiums are still shipping to upgraders during NAB...and then the same camera is released for $10k less?

I can imagine a revolt on the NAB floor.

However - a pimped out DSMC2 Epic-W that's 5K @96fps and 180mb/sec? That I can see happening...
 
I think anything less then a Epic Dragon spec wise and most won't trade-in. As a stand-alone, there better be a reason to pay extra for Epic-W over Scarlet-W.

Epic Dragon and Epic-W specs needs to match (to not be the same as the other DSMC2 offerings). After that, who knows what makes it cheaper then Magnesium Weapon. It won't be better then Magnesium (or match in speed). It should still have Pro Res (matching Scarlet-w) just not at Magnesium's level. It might be the same metal material as Scarlet-W and thus less expensive.

6K @ 30fps would be great. Maybe in a body made of the same metal as scarlet-w with compression and frame rates in between it and the weapon. 2k prores.

Whatever it is I'm thrilled to get another shot at the upgrade path. I know from a business standpoint it's smart to coax people into the dsmc2 line, but it's still a really nice thing to do. Was feeling a bit like I missed the boat.

I think it'll only make sense that Epic-MX get's a discount or possibly a trade-in to Scarlet-W or even Epic-W (at appropriate rates)... if Red wanted to be so generous.

I think NAB is taking too long to come!
 
Wait, did Scarlet MX get a discount? I thought it was only Scarlet-D owners who got in on that.

My mistake. Scarlet-D discount to Scarlet-W...
 
i could see them doing:

epic-mx discount to scarelt-w
epic dragon discount to weapon mg or scarlet-w (some people discover thats all they need but want the new features)

a whole new epic-w would just be weird, too many, and it would be hard to rent. i know one thing, it wont be cheap!

Remember Epic's price suddenly being cut in half? Plans change, ideas change. Red might give MG users an extra acc. credit. Who knows.
Aluminum Epic-W is coming. :- )

Yup, a painful memory for me, LOL.

I think I mentioned that in an earlier post and you're right, RED can do some aggressive marketing & re-positioning (if it so wishes).

But generally only after a camera has been on the market for several years. Not in the middle of a product launch.

Have you forgotten 3K for 3K? Dumped right before it was supposed to be launched in favor of the Scarlet 4K.

Why would anybody trade an Epic Dragon that has all the same specs as a weapon to downgrade to scarlet? all this talk is mind boggling. I think if its called EPIC then he's probably has something up his sleeve using the epic bodies that are out there be it MX or dragon and bringing this specs up to weapons and that only means simul prores...as thats the only real significant difference from epIC dragon to weapon , and maybe wifi...
 
Again no MX to scarlet anything..You don't leap from a Scarlet to an Epic x then go back to scarlet. That like getting the 8K weapon and then jump into a epic dragon, which would be insane. Maybe R1 to scarlet W? That won't happen either because only a fool would go from great to good. Shot per shot the MX R1 and Epic are kick ass. Id rather buy a new camera than part with them.
