Hey guys,

I've noticed a couple times now that my Epic W will have a very brief lag while looking around in standby, as if it drops frames for half a second.
I haven't been able to catch it while rolling just yet to see if it would translate into the footage.
Has anyone else had this issue?

Best,
Chris

I for sure have lag until the camera warms up

steve

Yes I have too, someitme I move the camera and ut freeze for a millisecond...looks like everyone has this isssue but it goes after is warmed up

If you have auto calibration enabled this is expected in preview while the auto calibration updates. It will not happen during record.

yeah it literally is like a milisecond, never goes to footage but then again, you should always wait for your camera to warm up anyways

steve

Thanks Trent!

Is Auto Calibration in regards to auto black shading vs. manual?

Yes, exactly. When using auto black shading the camera will automatically calculate and update the calibration if the temperature or shutter speed changes by enough margin. When the calibration is updated you will notice a short glitch in the preview video. The calibration is not updated once record is active, so there is no risk in this affecting recording footage.

Ah I see, I wasn't aware that it would continue to calibrate. I had thought it was just a one time calibration during the ~40 minute process that was then applied and left untouched until another full calibration was completed. Thanks for the knowledge!

the auto calibration is done once during the 40mins but then the camera will automatically select one of the various measured calibration maps and apply it (on camera warmup / speed change...) so display will lag in preview when the map is updated.

Man, Lubtchansky himself! Helping fools like myself all across the globe.
Thanks for chiming in on this, great to know! Thank you to everyone for the quick responses, I'm always amazed by the support found in this forum of talented folks.
