  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC-S (old Scarlet S35) update...

Hello Jim and The Red Team,
First of all I would like to congratulate you for your brilliant innovation. You guys will be remembered in the history of cinema/Movie making.
Secondly, I wish we can have Epic-s(or Red one-5K- equivalent performance and price) released before the end of 2011.
Third, I wish your company becomes one stop shop for A-Z in movie making, I mean Red should supply all the accessories including Filters, microphones, tripods,editing software, some small scale 4k-5k projectors(around $2000) which we can use(linked to our editing computer ) to test edited footage on our big garage walls,. I mean an ordinary indie movie maker makes one movie a year max, so projector does not needs to be so strong but good enough to test footage.
There is no known existing match, to your high quality and very reasonable price products, on this planet earth
I wish you all the best and wish I can get hold of Epic S(may be 5:1 compression, Red code 42,5k resolution,super 35mm) BEFORE THE END OF 2011.

The only reason I hope the competition brings a $10k 4k camera out is so Red can answer with something better! Cause we know they will!
 
Jim, Jarred, any chance we can place an order for an Epic X and accessories taking advantage of old pricing if we are not current Red owners? (which means this year?) This would be great for planning purposes.
 
Hello Red team,
is it OK if I order Canon mount, DSMC side handle now, assuming that something like Epic-S will be released on Nov 3 and I will be able to use these accessories on that my dream camera?

Good advice, Joseph. I can't decide if it is scary or humorous what people are starting to post about Scarlet and November 3rd. I have to admot, with all that has happened and been said, I haven't a clue what to expect! :001_unsure:
 
"3K will be a massive letdown" Huh?
Not that I'm against more, but let's be real, if Scarlet comes in at a pristine 3K it will drop-kick the industry into the middle of last week.
 
If 3k is good enough for Alexa it is certainly good enough for Scarlet and me.
 
Sorry, I just mean coming from projected EPIC S specs/ price. I think RED could do 4-5k brain for $15-20k, considering what the $17.5k R1 does and that was quite a while ago. 3k for way under $10k for scarlet is unquestionably a terrific shake up and the best price performance by far EVER. It would all be astounding, but RED always seems to raise the bar, not lower it, and i cant help but feel they wont "simply" drop their s35 5k camera down to 3k. doesn't seem like them. But its all getting so brilliantly cryptic now its anyones guess!

I guess your right, looking around 3k is good enough for what i need, for now, but $30k represents a huge investment for me, that i wouldn't make unless it can hold its value, and still hold up to/ help bring in, the work i want for some years to come. obviously 4-5k is the deliverable of the future, and would give me a lot of piece of mind.

Guys, they unclicked the lenses for use with Scarlet, it's a full sized sensor.
 
Have faith, trust and confidence. Red will fulfill the requirements of 3k, 4k and 5k scarlet customers within approx $8000-$14000 mark AND OBVIOUSLY please don't compare with Epic x or Epic M data rate and frame rates.
 
I cannot believe what RED offers for such a little amount of money... its incredible. also love the colour!

One question remains though, what do they intend the expensive monstro upgrade to do to scarlet? if it could shoot HDRx at 4k 25p after that point, and maybe even stretch to regular 5k 25p thats scarlet s35/EPIC S terittory, and i should get a scarlet..

If it will be handicapped slightly on purpose to prevent better data rates (encroaching on pre monstro EPIC), then maybe waiting and saving more and then getting an epic x is the way i should go.

because if the monstro upgrade is "more expensive" for scarlet than epic, and it still ends up not so feature rich afterwards, you might not be be spending money that wisely in terms of bang for buck.
