EPIC QUAD BATTERY MODULE

Is the dual battery module supposed to begin delivery at the same time as the quad? I think I prefer the dual in order to keep the entire rig a little smaller.

No, the dual will come after the quad. The quad is the piece that comes in the Stage II packages, so they are making it the focus first. Last we were told, the dual is targeted to ship in December... but they also told us the quad was targeted for October. Hopefully soon.

And yes, I think once people see how compact they can keep the camera with the dual, it will be the module of choice for many.

If we have the EPIC brain powered by a brick (V-mount) and have a couple of RED Volts in the Battery Module, would the RED Brick be in the chain of redundancy? If so, which would be the primary power source (as in the first source to be utilized)?

I'm really interested with this Quad Module and the Shoulder Pad, I was just wondering if it will be compatible with the Innocinema XLR audio adapter. on the quad module, it looks like the Shoulder Pad on the Quad Module is also attach to the quick Release Plate. So if I Put the quick release under the XLR adapter, would the height be still correct to fix the Shoulder Pad ?

well by the looks of the shoulder mount, it attaches onto the two bolts on the back of the quick-plate,

That XLR mount looks like it adds to the bottom plate

Assuming then that the bottom-plate and the quick-plate are compatible, those XLR ports look like they also are on the edge of the body, it maybe a tight fit but it looks like it'd work...

Thats assuming that the piece ur attaching to the bottom will allow for RED quick-plate system

all assumptions here though...

And yes, mystikpat, the audio adapter you linked should work fine with this as long as it doesn't add any height to the camera + riser plate (which it does not appear it does).

The brick or Rear Module is default ON.. the Side handle is the RESERVE - according to Jarred... may even be configurable, they are still working out final details- but yes you can combine power sources and they will drain sequentially

Any idea on the price of the dual battery module and charger ? and approx. how much running time would you get with two of the larger redvolts ?

The last pricing information we were given is $1,250 for the dual if you place a deposit before December 31st (which you can't do yet), or $1,450 after the start of the new year. Battery runtime will obviously vary based on how you use the camera, but you can probably expect 45-50 minutes of runtime out of two REDVOLTS. Remember they are hot swappable and they drain in sequence, so you can always replace the battery that depletes first without having to power down the camera (for virtually unlimited runtime).

There's a photo of the dual (not attached to a camera) earlier in this thread and several photos of the quad attached. You can probably use your imagination to figure out what the dual looks like attached.

I agree with you completely... no interest in bricks whatsoever.

Thanks for that - it was good to see the module attachment in something other than a picture.
The module adapter plate is a bit thicker than I originally thought.
Are those required between all modules? Or just between the brain and a module?

so it seems there's no D-Tap or Aux power on the module... hmmm, how am I to power a Cube or a radio focus then? or will there be something on the I/O module? What's the plan?

I've searched around and haven't found much information, but are RedVolt XL 90wh batteries still planned? As far as I know they are still planned for next year.

To point out what I'm thinking:

Combined with the QuadVolt Module that should be around 6 hours of up and run time. Which would cover most of my "full shooting day" situations with normal power downs for setups. I imagine for others as well, especially those focused on more compact portable setups.

If you are also using the DSMC Side Handle you can add another 1.5 hours into that mix. Nature and location work would be extremely portable at that point.

As Jarred mentioned, Red is working on adding power management features into the firmware which will also improve things. We might end up with a system that can potentially run 9-11 hours off of a single "5 battery" load.

With the DualVolt that could be 4.5 hours straight out of the gate with the DSMC Side Handle in a slightly more portable package.

I'm putting a lot of stock in the RedVolt battery system for my rigging purposes because of this and I'd like to avoid V-Mount setups if possible. Portability and hot swapping are important to me. I'm sure others desire such setups.

The RedVolt XL batteries are double the width of the regular RedVolts. So you can't fit one in a side handle. And you can only fit two in the Quad Module and Quad Charger.
