  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Epic & old glass

Pierre Angenieux for Leica, early eighties.
Minimum focus distance 0,9 meter, it is actually a macro lense aswell.
Maximum aperture 3.5
I dind't have the time to test it properly, but I already know it is my new lens for interviews and portrait.
The color rendition is sooo natural, me think it's a good one for color skin.

Gee! old Angies are fun!

Have any additional info on this lens?

Maybe by "additional info"you meant more pic. ;-)

They are similar to K35's but have fewer iris blades. We use an FD mount from a manufacture in poland which is good. I believe Optitek make one too. There are a couple of workshops that remount FD lenses to EF with out any additional optics, its just a replacement mount, The remount looks good. I am not so sure that EF mounts are better than FT, its not as strong but then EF might be more convenient for some.

Have just been talking about this on the Red One forum.
There is a FD mount for the red one on e-bay but it doesn't focus to infinity. I'm guessing the FFD is out?

Is there a FD mount out there for the Red One that works properly does anyone know?
I'm a fan of FD lenses and this is becoming a big black mark against the Red One for me at the moment!

Any info welcomed!

Anyone out there with Moviecam Primes? I still love the flavor they add to footage. My favorite Prime Lens out there!

Basically the glass used to shoot Aliens.

These are T2 K35's right? Used on Aliens 2? I'm guessing they look like K35's right?

Yes! P+S-technik makes one. It's very interesting one, you can get pretty much any lenses to fit: http://store.pstechnik.de/home/interchangeable-mount-system-ps-ims/ims-for-red-one/

Hi

I did not test my BNCR mount with BNC lenses but some of them should fit. It is 35.8 mm deep in diameter of 68mm. That might be enough for some Cooke Speed Panchro or Super Baltars in BNC mount. Exactly measurment is essential.

I bought your BNCR and OCT19 mounts and tested them with my Lomos and Super Baltars in BNC , and Canon (in an even longer rear-BNC) on an EPIC. I can happily report that these both work perfectly. No need to get BNC-mounted lenses converted to PL (at a very high cost). I am waiting on some stills and footie to post, but will do so soon.

Bjorn and anyone else that can chime in. What would be your must have FD lenses? Thinking about picking up a few of them while they are still cheap.

I think the 50mm f1.2 is a must have as it's so damm good and cost so little...

What I did was to find a list of all excising FD canon lenses and then I went ebay hunting for the fastest one for each focal length. The L series are off course really nice especially the 24mm and the 85mm..

Bellow is a link to what I got so far, I also started to pick up really obscure FD zooms from a lot of different brands at flee markets. Some of them are actually rated as favourites in my book.. Also there is a 500mm mirror reflex lens available on ebay that also a must have. Not too easy to pull focus with but I love what the mirror does to the DOF falloff. I showed it to a client of mine that directs music videos and his instant reply was that the next video will be all shot with this 500mm lens... sadly shortly after I happen to drop that lens in the floor so the mirror broke... :( Still getting a new one is not to much of a cost.

I also really want to get the FD tilt shift lens. But there is so many other toys on the wish list... so before I buy it I need to make up a project that actually need it. :)

I use the FD's with this mount which I can recommend, it's really sturdy, flange distance is dead on, without adjusting when swapping between PL and this mount and all in all I actually use it far more than our EF mount. Never really liked the autofocus as much as pulling focus on these babies, the focus rings feels smother and of better build than even the best "cine lenses"... and incomparable to the EF lenses.

and here is a little test with the 50mm and a 30mm: https://vimeo.com/52029840

And don't forget the 135mm that one is probably the sharpest lens I ever tested.

You forgot the swing shift... That I think should almost be top of the list. The more I think of it the more I want one. :)

And I would actually go for the Best list as far as possible, the others are not bad at all but the price for them is still so low compared to other lenses so it make no sense to not look for the faster option if available. or as fast as it gets for each focal length....

There is also some crazy nice non canon FD lenses out there, if you like zooms.... Those are a bit costly but not if you measure against the same lenses with PL mount... Then these two are practically for free...

35mm f1.4 is better. It's actually a great lens.

I'm fairly certain Canon never made a 35mm f1.4 in the FD series, but I could be wrong. Are you thinking of the newer EF mount lenses that Canon makes?

Its on there... 2nd from the bottom of the "Best" list :)
