  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC officially out of Backorder

Cool thanks Jarred. Yes I agree the moon must be messing with something for sure.

I have read so many issues with the RedMote that I was starting to think Red don't qualify it as a reliable source to control the camera, especially when its your only source of controlling the camera as you don't' have the TouchLCD or Side Handle.

I hear the RedMote are out of backorder this month (Feb) so that is great news.

Great news! Does coming out of backorder speed things up any on the Stage 3 front? or is it a completely different part of the company? Just wondering, Thanks.

Oscar, from a little earlier in the thread: "...the trade-in team for Stage 3 and 3.5 is a different stream from the new camera production team. We are notifying people to send in their RED ONEs for eval trade-in as quickly as that team can process them. And we are continuing to improve/streamline that process as we go along...

Meanwhile, our production team is cranking out cameras to a level where we can support open Stage 3/3.5 customers as well as at-once orders for Stage 4."

And, let's not forget that the Stage 3/3.5 program where you can use a camera - then trade it in for up to full retail value for our next generation camera - is a pretty insane deal. And, frankly, it takes time to get everything back, evaluate, discuss with the customer, start order processing, etc. We are speeding up these trade-in notices every week or so as we evolve the process. Believe me, we want to get through the trade-in program as quickly as we can. We are a lean team - we can certainly use those resources in other areas! At the same time, if we have enough cameras being produced to cover both Stage 3/3.5 and 4, we are not going to hold out on shipping cameras.

Which brings us back to why this thread started, the production team is making us proud and it is certainly a sign of better days ahead from a backorder perspective.

REDMOTEs kick ass now.. took awhile for the software to catch up with the hardware. You won't be disappointed.

I have a daughter who shows her worst side whenever my wife and I make things nice for her, it's weird. Some Redusers seem just the same, you give them the world and the whine that there is too much ocean. I just got a stage three Epic for less than $11K and a full refund on a four year old camera. Thats phenomenal, unprecedented in any other industry. I love Red for their commitment and generosity to the early customers. They work really hard, take a lot of crap from some customers and don't get enough credit for what they have achieved. we all need to step back and look at what we have, 5K RAW footage, slo mo, HDR, etc. in a camera the size of a Mamiya for the price of a small car, a small used car if your stage 3, oh yeah and a bunch of accessories throw in for free. Anybody miss the $100K Arri film cameras that weigh 50lbs and need to be reloaded with expensive film stock every four minutes? OK, rant is over.

I've been following you guys ever since you were in the "thats a scam" phase. I remember way back in the day at Moto GP seeing the science behind Oakley optics, and the first thing I thought when I heard of Jim Jannard's RED camera concept was, this "RED" is one day going to be the greatest camera company in the world.

I think it can argued that RED has already reached that status - especially with this announcement.

I'm currently in college and there's no way I can afford a RED, but that's why I'm working hard in school now so that one day I can have a successful career and not only provide for my family, but also experience the other joys of life like owning a RED :-) 10 years is just soooo far away... maybe I'll at least have the joy of shooting with one before then

Anyways, gotta get back to the studies, congratulations to the RED team, and especially to our leaders Jim and Jarred!

Man I love this company

Cool guys, congrats.

So If I order a pay for the EPIC today online, your saying Ill have it in a week or so?...

Man !!, I did not think I'd see the day. :) Amazing work, you guys must be selling thousands of these things..
A EPIC being build every 13 minutes x 18 hours per day, 83 EPICS per day, 581 per week, 204,701 per year..... x 40k each = $8,188,061,538.oo (not to mention the accessories and lenses and SSD side of the business) WOW!!!!! GO JIMBO!!

Order coming in now!... and 2 more from a mate of mine sitting next to me. :) We both thought that he wouldn't get it for months if he ordered now.

Sorry for que jumping 3 & 3.5 dudes... I can see the log jam with that trade in deal is causing the slow down for you all.

:)

The RedMote does indeed kick ass. So does the side handle and I find myself more attached to that during long days zipping around the menus. For programming and what not I used the RedMote.

A question for Jarred, you may or may not be allowed to answer this. Will the wifi in-camera be able to send signal to say an Ipad for streaming once the proxy module is ready? Or will that be an option for the Proxy module? :0)

Andrew,

Keep up the hard work can't speak for the young guns we have on Reduser but just being able to follow the careers of Joseph H., Tony A., and Brian I. and the many others young filmmakers, cinematographers, DPs, ACs RED looks forward to being able to provide you tools and support your craft.

hey Jarred,
I have 3 very disappointing RED MOTES.... 3 to 8 feet max... The worst being from my EPIC M deal, and my two 3 month old ones are only slightly better. 8 feet....
Are you saying that firmware alone fixes the range issues ?
I'm going to do another test with them this week when I get back from shooting.

I'm just curious mate as I'd love to get these working properly. I just like the look of them... :)

What's my next course of action if they are all still low range.. Do i have to send the cameras and REDMOTES back? (hopefully not as they are busy as hell)

Looking forward to NAB by the way...

Congrats on reaching such an achievement to all at RED.

Sorry Mark... On M's you need the new antennas... part of the (free) upgrade process all Epic-M owners get that begins next month.

Hmmm. Was shooting outside with my M today and checked range of Redmote. I had soilid signal out to 40-50 feet. The problem I had from day one was a battery that would discharge while unit was off. It went dead in about two days. Red had me send it in, no problems after that. My X redmote has worked fine since its unboxing. All things Red take a bit of time to mature. I'm glad I'm old enough to have some patience. It took me a long time to develop that trait. Now where's my RedRay and 3D laser projector, eh?
