  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC is alive...

I love my RED one. Built like a damn tank. The EPIC idea of upgradeble modules is obvioulsy brilliant. Stack them up to customize your needs. Love it. Can't live with out it.

But from an engineering standpoint.. even with the most robust of latches and connectors... keeping those all important pins tight together with repeated use. That's gotta be tough!

Hope the engineers nailed the module connection system! (they seem to be kicking a** everywhere else!)

Try the search function, this has not only been answered, but Jarred uses a flash umbrella for most prototype sneak peak pics. The rest is yet to be determined, its not shipping yet for comparison

Hi Tim,

I am pretty sure Jarred wasn't shooting stills with an Epic or Scarlet.

I am just asking because I don't think the stills side has been covered nearly as much as the motion side.

Granted, Epic / Scarlet should make one hell of a cinema camera, But I a very curious to see how well it stacks up to DSLR's as it is sopose to be both a stills camera and a Cinema movie making machine.

Just curious!

Respectfully

I'm pretty sure CF recording boards or what not make A LOT LESS heat than a CMOS sensor running at 100 fps.

We've never seen fans in any of the modules be it render or mock ups.

It will have a fan, or some sort of active cooling. Passive cooling would not be effective in hot ambient temperatures.

Yes... It is now an eject mechanism with a push button. There is also another surprise With the side cf module you will see in a couple days :)

Ok - I can't resist biting - dual CF slot?

I am so curious about recording options, especially what we can expect in high speed burst mode to CF or other similar media.

NAB will be very exciting!

Powerful specs, heat/cooling and fan noise are all part of the difficulty of what we are doing. If we had just put everything in the same size box as RED ONE... we'd have no issues whatsoever. But we couldn't do that! :)

Jim

I was wondering about that. With a RED One battery lasting 1.5-2 times as long but the housing less than 2 times the volume of a RED One there must be a lot of cooling going on. Any idea how hot it will run compared to the RED One?

uhu!!
speechless
sorry

"The man with a new idea is a Crank until the idea succeeds"

This quote comes to mind at the moment.

Jim, we all expected more resolution and more dynamic range, but how is the color better? That's a great surprise!

does this have to do with skin tones.. i've heard some grumblings about the red one not being able to reproduce good looking skin tones

id like to add skin tones in the la times article look great

How many EPICS do you expect to sell in stages 1 to 3?
Any estimates?
If everyone with a RED ONE gets one, the absolute best I can hope for is to be 7500th in line, being a STAGE 4 person and all.... :(
Unless you have some indications that only a certain percentage of RED ONE owners will take up the stages 1-3 offer?

Some of you I know are going to appreciate this... Clean 1080p HDMI/HD-SDI output feeds while the menus are still on the LCD/EVF ).

As you can see the new 5" Touchscreen is up and running as well...

Some of us? How about ALL of us. PS- love the cable wrap-around you did there!

(Hey Kilgroe, I can see Grumpy in this one too!)

And I think thats the first shot of running accessories on a working EPIC body! :cheers2:

That cable management is pretty sweet too. I'm really glad I'm going to make it to NAB this year.

Tim

The cool thing about the 5" ( and 2.8 and 9" ) LCD is you can spin around the base 180 degrees separately from the Monitor section and reverse that LEMO port to the left side if you so desire, giving you hardcore cable management folks plenty of options...
