  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC images...

Excellent stuff! So... can one operate the Epic / Scarlet brains entirely using only the side handle? Or are there any operations for motion picture recording that are exclusive to the REDmote (other than wireless operation, of course)?

Also, is there a way to operate the Epic / Scarlet brain with only a power cable plugged into a wall (no battery) for extended periods?

Thanks for the avalanche of info these past few days!

Yes. No.

Yes.

Jim Jannard........you are a genius in my eyes.
Your work and your Red Teams work is so fantastic
I am almost at a loss for words.

THANK YOU!!!

Before we got the SSD working, we recorded 5K 2.37:1 at 120fps to CF! (about REDCODE 10) Images looked pretty darn good! :-)

Jim

That is very impressive. RC10 would be a great option, but would you ever make that public?

Martin Stevens... I like you, too.

Good question... have to see. The 1st thing that will happen is "I shot this on EPIC." ... and the reply will be "look at all those compression artifacts. EPIC sucks!".

Yeah, I'm sure everyone (the comptition) would run out and shoot tests with the EPIC at RC10...but then again, you could always hook up the old SSD and blow peoples minds,

...scalability is a wonderful thing...but I could see the concern with the RC10 option.

Martin I can't agree more! Thank you for all of this Jim!!!! :) You are the man!

Just don't allow people to set it to
Redcode 2 or Redcode 1.

If you set it to REDCODE 2... you might get almost as many compression artifacts as a 5D. :-)

Presto Change-o

so much nicer than renders !

I think thats the first pic I've seen of the sensor sitting in the brain from this angle. Seems longer than I imagined from brooks sensor chart

REDVOLT XL battery sticks out a little more than a standard REDVOLT

So sad that you have to think about stuff like this. People are such tools.

Maybe you could mark them with warnings or make them special settings sorta like how DSLRs have "HI1" "HI2" etc warning you "this is not up to our usual standards but its there in a pinch" to maybe reduce that problem (or at least make it easier to tell people who pull that to shove it).

what is the battery life of REDVOLT XL compared to two standard REDVOLT batteries? double, or more than double?

Jason

Jim or Jarred, can you tell me which of the two shoulder mounts (or both, or neither?) you're planning to move forward with for Epic?

This one:

or this one:

I have always loved the form factor of that first one immensely, but never see it in any "real" shots. It also looks like it would block the ports on the back of the Epic brain near the bottom, but perhaps they're not necessarily needed for all kinds of shooting (ie, the output module replicates everything we'd need). Would love to hear which direction it's headed.
