  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC HDR...

Holy crap. This is huge. Just, wow. DR that matches (and exceeds!) the human eye. Amazing. I couldn't ask for anything more. I was a little worried it'd look like the nasty HDR you see on the web, but nope, looks fan-freakin-tastic. Deliciously flat. Like you could grade it to anything you wanted. Can't wait to see some more shots. Congratulations.

This is THE best reason to work for, ever.
I love this attitude (I live according to it on a MUCH smaller scale)

Now I need to save for an EPIC.

Congratulations for changing history.
 
This will improve a lot of things! Not just the quality of the image, and post requirements, but also the ergonomics and camera set up for shooting!

Less pressure to use high strength ND grads for filming scenery. Smaller matteboxes, quicker shot setup times.

Also fewer compromises, and trade offs in image quality, by being able to use lower strength nd grads in shooting daylight exteriors. Smaller issues with IR contamination and correction.

Congratulations to the entire RED team, and thank you Jim, for dreaming it, thinking it, putting together this amazing team, working as hard as you do, bringing such a wonderful attitude, risking the money and time that you have, and eventually creating the digital cinema camera so many of us have been hoping for. I know that with the new line of RED cameras I can finally capture images the way I really want to. This is huge, and very exciting for me as an artist. Finally a supreme tool that can do it all just right.

Why do my threads not get 20 pages of comments in one day? Looks fantastic! What's next? My bet is a 10mm to 1000mm zoom lens... at T0.1!

Now if they can just get working on that time machine idea and bring finished Scarlets and Epics to market now. LOL!

Incredible work Red team. Your going to make many a producer and gaffer happy with this improvement. Can't wait to get my hands on one or two...

It is smaller than every 35mm film camera. It has more resolution. More dynamic range. The color science is now perfect. It is cheaper than a film camera. It records to a reusable SSD or CF. The results are NOW.

I have to say that EPIC achieves everything we ever set out to accomplish. Wow.

I have a feeling no HDR on Scarlet. Jim has said a few times that the EPIC processing power is way more than Scarlet, hence the frame rates, REDCODE options, etc. I doubt the Scarlet will be able to handle it. But hey, that's your difference between a $3000 and a $30000 Brain.

But Scarlet 2/3" handles less data too...I mean if Epic can do 120fps at its full resolution (5k) and Scarlet 2/3" can do 120fps at its full resolution (3k), then why not HDR? It would seem its processing power scales with its resolution to make it comparable with Epic.

Now Scarlet S35 on the other hand may be out of luck...
