  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

EPIC 3D...

Are those RED 3D glasses in the bottom of the picture ;-)

Looks so small, and so light! Even smaller than I expected...!
Can you tell us what the total weight without lenses comes to?

And please post a few more pictures if you would.

Amazing rig! Any news on the firmware bug?

The Red 3D Glasses are ET's, I know I own a pair:) The Pulsar rig is huge this looks like the neutron to me.

I highly doubt this LCD can overlay both signals but please prove me wrong:) Typically a 3D Op uses only 1 eye to operate as the 3D IOD might be shifting during the shot and he/she would need glasses to properly see. Which doesn't make sense.

I will admit this is a nice photo worth a 1000 words but doesn't look operational or it it?

You could never do this with a MX Red without breaking your arms the HH rig is to far forward of center to be manageable for more then a couple minutes. With Epic, Steadicam might be more of viable option.

Looking forward to the goodtimes!

Thanks for posting,

waiting for our two Epics

It's a modified Neutron. The Quasar rig is the big boy. The Pulsar in a Neutron with a larger mirror box and some modifications - this is a "prototype" of what that will be -we are picking up our first Neutron next Wednesday - VERY excited.

Yes, an OP would use 1 eye - but you can also judge IO in anaglyph WITHOUT glasses. Horses for courses.

Operational.

We had alot of fun today.. .

Complete Rig Weight with dual red bricks on board to power everything was just over 45 pounds.

Shit!! Even I with a reconstructed Knee and a week heart, I can do this, he he.

And off course it can get lighter if you use the Epic-X Batteries.

Very nice! That is a very manageable rig/setup. At only 45lbs, that should fit within the capacity of many light weight jibs. I want to make that baby fly!

Way cool stuff - "The times they are a changin'"

ET gear rocks! I've been beta testing their products for several years now. This new ET 3D rig is exceptional...

This new ET 3D rig is quite a bit smaller than the Paradise FX Paracam we used on September 1, 2007 at the Paradise FX studio - using my Red 0008 and Billy Summers Red 0013 to produce what was the world's first Red 3D production using shipping Red One cameras.

The Paradise FX Paracam worked extremely well that day, as did Lucas Wilson with his Scratch system to edit the short 3D piece we produced. We shot it in 4k, and Lucas scaled it down to 2k for the edit. When it was finished, we all sat around grinning with 3D glasses on and had a real sense of history as we watched the edited production. We produced this just one day after the very first Red One cameras were delivered - serial numbers 6 through 24.

Those who would like to read about that very first Red 3D production, and see a photo I shot of Red 0008 and Red 0013 mounted on that much larger Paracam 3D rig, can read this article I wrote about it, which was published in Studio Daily magazine on September 5, 2007:

Fast forward to today:
Now we have a much smaller 3D rig (ET) mounting much smaller and more capable Red cameras (Epic). This is very cool...and thanks to companies like Red and ET its a super fun time to be working in the motion media industry.

As one of the producers of that first Red 3D production, I'd like to give Red a big pat on the back for creating Epic, and ET a big kudo for this new, smaller 3D rig.

Very nice thanks for posting!

I worked on a few projects with the guys at 3ality, very solid guys, I can't wait to see the new rig!
