  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Enter the Dragon

One additional thought before the champagne.

With this level or latitude and what we are referring to as native ISO 2000 we'll be able handle some of the stranger low light conditions that sometimes can produce "super saturation" within the image on modern cameras. That's my theory until its tested. Really interesting potential there as well.

There is something important with Dragon in regards to this that we will discuss soon... Graeme has been pretty busy.

Really an amazing feat. Also, many thanks as I purchased a team of Scarlets that
will glady sacrifice themselves to upgrade and "transform" to Epic Dragon.

Thanks Jim/Jarred and RED team. I'm curious how the competition will answer.

Jarred: Is there gonna be any update on the firmware of the scarlet to give it a little boost like FPS or better lowlight? or RED will leave it like it is and that will be the scarlet?

Yes, for me the key question is, what is the lowest levels of black the Dragon sensor will be able to recognize from noise (say, compared to the sensor of Epic-X)? The answer will tell more than any ISO value, which quite looses it's meaning when the dynamic range gets this high -if ISO has ever meant anything precise in the post-film digital era.

Upgrade seems to be turning into a routine around here...almost like it was "PLANNED" lol

It appears that the Dragon will have about 4 stops more DR and less than half the noise of the current Mysterium-X sensor.

Thanks, that tells a lot. If I'm not mistaken here, this means, one may open one stop with Dragon and still have less noise than with the current Mysterium-X sensor. Then the other way around, one has 4 stops more before clipping. Wonderful achievement, can only admire and enjoy the passion to make better cameras!

Congratulations Jim, Jarred and the entire RED team.

Mind Blowing news.............THANKS!

Our Scarlet just did a BTS for the celebration at Burj Khalifa New Year Celebration 2013. And I am checking out the 4K footage

I think our Scarlet "CHE" will be remembered for that :-), as I am going for the trade-in.

Wait... WHAT? 21 STOP?

Wait... what? I am still a little hungover from New Years, but... WHAT?

This is straight off the sensor... with no HDRx applied?

WHAT?

I am really glad I have an Epic now... I mean, REALLY glad!

Dragon Monochrome...

Dragon clearly 20+ stops

WooooooW....so technically what leap is that in Moore's law?

I don't think that's Moore's law anymore taking effect... it's been blown so far behind in the 13.5 stop era... time to call it Jannard's law now.

I'm not quite sure if everyone fully understands what this actually means. This is the 1st time in history that a digital sensor blows away the dynamic range of film... and at a resolution that rivals 65mm. Couple that with 80+ fps at full resolution. Of course you can shoot lower resolution at higher frame rates. Record to a small SSD. REDCODE. Dragon. RED.
