Amazing

Amazing

Amazing! I'm so excited to hear more about the progress of this short film and get my hands on the poster!

Love the minimalism reflected in the poster. A perfect example of less is more...considering the subject matter and the attached title, it lets our imagination run wild.

Yeah, Dan McCarthy (the poster artist who did the main artwork) and Tom McDowell (the concept artist who did the two figures) are both immensely talented artists. I was stunned when I first saw the image.

Out of curiousity as I have no experience in the area but want to know more; realistically, what CGI(in terms of quality and quantity) can you get for the allocated budget you posted previously?

PM if you feel more comfortable not disclosing such details in public. Haha.

The honest answer is that I don't know for sure. The plan I'm implementing to achieve the desired quality level (demonstrated by Rinsch's film "The Gift") is rather uncharted territory, to the best of my knowledge. I'm giving the film a lot of time and utilizing volunteer, collaborative resources where possible, and will use the budget where necessary. So far the VFX team has produced some fantastic work without having to spend a dime, so I'm very hopeful about the prospects.

Also, given the momentum the film's been building as of late, I'm also hopeful that I'll have a bigger budget then I originally planned on.

That is great to hear! I hope your budget keeps climbing and I'd contribute if I wasn't nearly broke myself!

I love the organic and realistic feel from "The Gift" and it very much reminds me of the method used in "District 9". I've always felt that anything created as CGI will lose its value and seem empty unless you manage to have the audience invest emotionally in whatever it is you're creating: character, setting, what have you.

Regarding the VFX, its really encouraging to hear people are willing to help out based on your concept, which I repeat sounds spectacular. But it's at times like these that I wish I was in a place with more readily available VFX artists. Alas, I live in Honduras--there is some 3D animation available but the project I have in mind is more along your vision.

I can't wait to see your project come to fruition. Best of luck.

What I've been finding is that geographic location isn't nearly as much of a limitation as you might think. So far, I haven't actually met any of the VFX artists who've been helping out in person. Everything has been done remotely. There are lots of artists out there willing to collaborate on cool projects; you just have to be willing to work on a much longer time frame.

Here’s the newest promotional print by the wonderful Dan McCarthy, with additional art by Tom McDowell. It’s titled “Life Keeps Running”, is 13″ by 18.5″, printed digitally on 97# Curious Metallic “Iced Gold” Cover stock, and numbered out of a limited edition of 100. The combination of the fall colors and the “Iced Gold” metallic paper make this print really stunning. The print will be given away as thank-you gifts to anyone who donates $40 or more to the film from this point forward. All proceeds go directly towards making Novos. Also, there are still a few of the previous print, “The Forest Made Us Talk”, so please contact me if you’re interested in getting one.

Check it out at novosfilm.wordpress.com
