  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Enter the Dragon

i want one!! But is it posible to get with the upgrade to Dragon a anohter less noise FAN , because it will generat more heat don't you think. And in our country we almost never dub, because there is no money and talent to handle it. So the silencer the camera is the better.
Best regards and Happy New Year Robert

Hello,

Direct sound is also unbeatable! I developed the FanPlate to lower the fan speed and cool the camera.

Take a look.

See you.

This is really just unbelievable news. Thanks entire RED team. Kudos and congratulations for this incredible achievement and for a job well done. Just terrific. Life is best shot on RED, which is an extension of not just your soul or even just mine, but for all the souls everywhere. Great work, Jim. Thanks everyone. I just want to say how amazing this is. Life on RED. If it's worth shooting, it's worth shooting on RED. Thank you to my sales rep. Unfathomable quality and earth-shattering events here, literally. Literally the most important thing ever to happen. Life shot on RED. Extension of your soul. Congratulations. Thank you! Unbelievable.

+ 1 on Mark beta testing. He is always thorough and extremely generous in sharing what he has learned. I also nominate Phil Holland for beta testing. I spends a ridicules amount of time on his posts and they are always educational. I am sure you are well aware of the value of these redusers and getting cameras into their hands will be beneficially to everyone.

Hand up for early beta testing.

And Happy new year guys.

Hi Patrick,

Have you started selling the Fan plate yet? I haven't seen any articles or reviews on it and am curious. It looks like a great product. What about distribution? Are you selling it in the States or Canada through any distributors yet?

Wil

New Dragon: Approximately highest fps at 2k? Certain shooting situations, I'd need more fps and willing to sacrifice resolution (down to 2k).

Very exciting news!

Thanks

It will be curious to see if RED releases a new color space/gamma profile for Dragon.

I would say this is pretty much certainly going to happen due to the new sensor and other elements that have been mentioned in this thread.

New color science will need to be crafted for Dragon.

I mean... If someone felt the need for me to look into this...

Hahaha

But I wouldn't mind...

Vote Groven!

hehe, I'm sure RED have testing covered. We in the community do love to pitch in though and I never tire of it :)

They already have 128gb and 256gb, and 64gb cards bro.

If I`m not mistaken, the 512 GB has a higher data rate capability then current 256 GB and 128GB SSDs, hence "turbo".

I believe it`s safe to assume that those higher data rates will be needed for shooting 6K 3:1 even at 24 fps.

It would be nice not having to buy two 512 GB cards immediately when Dragon Arrives, so smaller "turbo" SSDs would be a nice option.

For the work I do, 2x 128GB "Turbo" SSDs would actually be enough...

Any chance you're able to make the fans more silent with this upgrade ? That's one of the main points that might need your attention and that could be improved. The fan noise seems to be an annoyance for a lot of people I talked to (during standby and while shooting longer takes).

Amazing to return to this post after a new year break (off-line). Congratulations!
Watching history unfold AND to be a part of it as well is humbling.

Thank you Pat, do you put the original redfan off (disconnecting power) ore using both fans?
Best Robert

As a Scarlet owner (#48), is there any faster path to Dragon...

Sure it is ! Wait for the Dragon EPIC appears in the RED store and try to be quick with deposit. Sure it is the fasest way :)
It is the great news that Jarred already mention trade in program - this is outstanding level of service, it never happen before in the industry, super awesome.

But.

We have to accept the matter of fact, that RED selling Scarlett core for less than $8000 - don't think you can be credited for trade in your Scarlet more than 50% of the current brand new body price (even 50% is a great value, technically it can be much lower). So you maybe can get $4000 discount on EPIC DRAGON, or even less. Because RED have nothing to do with Scarlet's - I don't think there is a way to sell them back, unless RED figure out some special upgrade path for Scarlets to sell them back.
Or you can basically keep Scarlet as great B or backup camera.

Oh yes yes, every time I set up the camera and my 24mm Summilux is just sitting there on the table getting lonesome I am just heartbroken.

speaking of round... i'd love to have a circle-shaped sensor. i know it's 'different', but i'm just sayin. that way you can use the whole lenses image, and shoot something other than daggum recta-linear windows. circles make the world go round :)

i keep looking at the screen grab and it's crazy to think we've gotten there so fast.

Last I remember was the 2008 announcements so much of a movement has happened since then

pretty impressive....Great Job Red

nice way to kick off the new year

4 months til NAB it seems like Red Team has their work cut out for them.

CES is around the corner curious to see how much of an impact 4K is gonna make for 2013. Mobile Devices are going Retina or 1080p, more and more 4K screens are being announced in Japan, Canon and Sony both have dropped their 1st Gen 4K cameras. 4K and Modular cameras are the new trend in the consumer electronic world.

I don't see my Scarlet aging too much in the next year, built-in-recording 16-Bit RAW 4K seems at least 8-12 months aways from other companies. We could have surprises but I doubt it Chinese 2K Camera and BMC are barley going out the door just now, that was the talk of the town NAB2012.

Holding my breathe until we can get date/price confirmation for Scarlet/Epic-to-Dragon stages. Seems to be some concern if owners can trade early to Epic-X to help with the upgrade-downtime/cost, I don't see that happening until Epic Dragon is finally priced out due to Dragons thirsty data quench.

I am a little worried but you know if worst comes to worst I'll have to be happy with what I have. It did Soderbergh well in Che and sure as hell beats a DSLR image =)

Red pushing ahead to the un imaginable.

Epic holds it's name for the new year

Imagination can take you very far....

can't wait for whats ahead
