So this looks spiffy: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?65432-VF-Brook-s-APU-Battery-Plates

I'm really liking the design of this plate. I'd go with Red Side Handle and RedVolts, but all I hear is that they don't last at all, so instead, I'm looking at a V-Mount and Batteries. (Planning on getting a Redmote either way, so control isn't an issue. Also planning on getting some other method for holding the danged camera.) Course, I'm starting from square one here, and trying to find a good deal on V mount batteries and a charger.

Anyone have an opinion on this:

Or any suggestions on anything similar? I'm trying to get the minimum amount of gear yet still allow me to get up and running, and then I'll be adding pieces on in the future. Meaning, if anyone has a cheaper solution for powering Scarlet, I'm all ears.

Are the redvolts really that ineffective? i ordered the 4 pack on top of the package so i better embrace it i guess! personally i always get a bit excited when my Mk II starts flashing red ! Like 3rd party storage theres bound to be a panoply of options hitting the market soon

IDX makes a great selection of V-mount options and prices look reasonable...
Prob will need to get the plate you want with the 4-pin XLR optioned cable, then get REDs XLR-Lemo DC cable for $120 I believe...

So that ActionProducts mount on the rear of the camera is probably the simplest, easiest, and possibly even cheapest way to use V-mount batteries? It looks like it just slides on the rear of the camera. Anything else, is either more expensive, or I'd need to by rods and mounts for the rods, as well as still needing the appropriate cable.

Hope someone (EPIC users) could show us a better alternative. 25 minutes per volt is terrifying. Especially for small to one man crew it will be an unnecessary thing to be worried about on the set.

The Quad Redvolt module (available relatively soon) holds up to four Redvolts or two Redvolt XLs, hence closer to two hours running time, not counting the possibility of one more Redvolt in the Side Handle and/or in addition to a simultaneously mounted Red Brick. Also, the Epic draws from these batteries sequentially, not simultaneously, so Redvolts can, therefore, be swapped out with fresh batteries without interrupting production.

Can someone please explain
Is the V-Mount an alternative for the Red Volts or just a flexible mounting option compatible with different batteries (Red Bricks)?
I will still need to purchase batteries, right? So $700(V-mount) + $750(Red Volt)

How soon, any idea?

REDVOLT batteries are designed for "internal mounting" - such as in the Side Handle and / or Rear Battery Module.

Our V-Mount plate is for use with RED BRICK batteries (or functional equivalent)

The V-Mount is only for Red Bricks or other v-mount bricks, not the Redvolts or Redvolt XLs, unless there is some as of yet unannounced converter for the v-mount, but I'm not sure that would make much sense.

EDIT: Oops, Stuart be me to it... barely.

Was researching this a bit yesterday and came to the conclusion that the battery belt clip is the cheapest V mount solution for Scarlet currently on the market.

I'm also reading that Swit make a good non RED-branded v-mount battery. The battery can be split into two 80Wh cells so that it is travel safe according to FAA regulations.

The Swit battery you mention has a max output current of 5.5A. Epic operation guide (page 32) says that it draws a maximum of 12A. I am not proficient at all in electrical matters, so I am not sure how relevant this current draw issue is. Just thought I'd mention it.

I've been looking at a similar belt clip solution to get started with my Scarlet rig. Bebob makes a "high draw" 90Wh battery V90RM that has a maximum load of 12A. Since Scarlet draws less current than Epic, I assume that there will be some extra capacity in the battery to power some other peripherals with modest power requirements such as a field mixer, an audio recorder and a field LCD monitor.

I believe you will need this 2b-to-1b-lemo-power-adaptor-cable to use the battery belt clip with Scarlet or Epic.
