  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2. Unified.

The old ( yesterday ) price was $29k but you are probably barking up the right tree . Something we can do is offer a healthy discount to Weapon Helium owners ( and yes that includes you MG guys and girls ) that want to move to Monstro VV.. but this will only work for the current inventory we have... the good and bad news on this pricing transparency is that each product needs to stand on its own in pricing and the next batch of Monstro sensors will need to be priced accordingly or the whole thing falls down. Give us 24 hours to figure something out and then contact your rep.

As for owners of VV that recently paid full price... we will take care of you a different way. For those that upgraded to Monstro from a killer deal along the way... in the spirit of being fair you already had your golden ticket so just enjoy the ride, and apologize that it can get a bit bumpy along the way :)

Contacted my rep but he did not have any news on this upgrade from Weapon to Monstro VV yet...

My rep said they are working with everyone individually, I have already been taken care of. I was offered a considerable discount to take my Helium to Monstro, and I gladly took it!

I don't know why red works so hard on all of this, they really don't need to. Every other company including Arri, Canon and Sony have all lowered prices by 50% at times suddenly on their products without warning. It is very clear to me that red has spoiled us all rotten.

Or maybe RED could release a limited Monstro Collector Edition with Jim/Jarred signature engraved on the body, à la Leica. Maybe then the value would hold lomger.

That would be like a bad silicon valley joke. THE HELIUM 3 signature edition.

This is actually incorrect -- the new DSMC2 internals (some are calling them Weapon internals) help get you roughly doubled framerates at 7k & 8k when compared with Epic-W Helium, but for everything below 7k the Epic-W Helium and DSMC2 Helium are identical in framerates. I believe you can achieve lower compression but the sensor will not refresh any faster at those lower resolutions.

The lower REDCODE Compression depends on the MINI-MAG read-out you have also. With the "Red" one you will be taking full advantage of the max data rate of your BRAIN (Up to 300 MB/s).

I know I came to the party with a RED One MX but, to me, this was a great move for RED! To be honest, I got a bit lost with the Weapon line, with Raven, Helium, and then Gemini and Monstro, plus all the different material options, it was too much! Also, looking at the upgrades and where to jump in for the most value, as a personal use camera, it’s hard to decide and with the prices being so high for the top cameras, it kind of steered me towards the simplicity of the competition which was easier to understand and quite competitive, despite RED’s 8K advantage. It really wasn’t until Gemini that I got excited for the Weapon line, I love my A7S and being able to get basically clean ISO 3200 and 6400 is a real treat and really opens up practical interior lighting situations for nighttime filming. I think it’s really classy of RED to make the Gemini the main midpoint camera before getting into 8K territory, what a great idea! Granted, it won’t be until the next project or two before we look at investing in the Weapon line but moves like this really will make the choice much easier when that time comes. Now if only RED could work their magic on their media prices, that’s a significant hurdle, I’m sure but that would be great for RED users! If not that then maybe a standard size SSD recording module for Prores recording as an option? Just an idea! ;)

I don't know why red works so hard on all of this, they really don't need to..

This move wasn't for you. And this move wasn't for RED.

This disruption was for all the creatives that come after you and I are both gone.

I promise, the next one is for you:)

Hey, I've been trying to keep up with this thread.. will raven and scarlet w continue as part of the line up? Also do you think red still has a 65mm camera on the roadmap beyond vista Vision? I know the road map from many years ago had this concept and Thalia Leica lenses now make glass a reality. Lastly would you offer any more test material comparisons between helium and Gemini for us guys struggling between the two? I really think Gemini looks awesome and I am leaning that way but question the long term rational somewhat in that 8k will be a format one day soon enough unlike 5k

I agree. there's hardly any content out there shot with Gemini. Hard to make a decision!

Yeah it is really strange that the prices are that much more expensive. Hope they will fix it. 12500$ to 12900€ sounds a little bit harsh to me.

Guys, as I have stated twice already, I have asked our finance team to move up our scheduled exchange rate analysis window. We normally do this once a quarter or so.

Yes, there are other factors of cost when shipping internationally so it won't ever match the exact exchange rate due to those costs.

They are working on it, and I expect updates this week. And when I have them, I will post here.

So, please be patient. We cannot do our due diligence any faster.

I think you’re catching the few stragglers on the forum that only do a quick browse for their information and don’t see all of what they’re looking for - then post about it. Since learned just to check your forum posts directly to keep up with new information.

............... We just fixed that.

We have aligned ourselves with new partners to retool our manufacturing process and dramatically improved our supply chain. We have trimmed the excess. We have isolated our camera businesses completely on its own so it's costs are transparent and only burdened by itself.

And the results have been immediate.

Some things will become more expensive, some will become more affordable through this transparency. ...........

Jarred,

Just a quick question regarding the new partners and supply chain.

Will this have any impact on the "Country of Origin" designation "Made in USA"?

Thanks

The RED TEAM link that jumps you from RED team (eg, me and Jarred's posts) sequentially should be everyone's best friend....

I'm still waiting to hear some news from Red on the future of Scarlet w and Raven. Most people seem to think that they will disappear once the inventory runs out.

I actually read all posts before asking the question, and I feel sorry for Brent that people keep basically repeating it.
If there was already an answer that someone of the RED TEAM is looking into it, they will do it. You don't need to remind them on the next day, they will get back to you with an answer.

I didn't know about a RED TEAM link. I often use the view all posts from possibility.

Ok, I read a couple of posts here about people wanna work at RED.......but seriously, look at this poor guy Brent......seems he busts ass!! Big respect from my side over at the bench!
