  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2. Unified.

Brent or Jarred,

This is a BIG question for those thinking of "downgrading" from Helium to Gemini. For the $5000 fee, will it be for a NEW Gemini? Or will it be just a case of swapping out boards and sensors, and not having that lovely 2 year warranty?

If it were a new Gemini body, it would soften the blow of paying $5K to instantly lose $5K on the model value.

Thanks

I actually read all posts before asking the question, and I feel sorry for Brent that people keep basically repeating it.
If there was already an answer that someone of the RED TEAM is looking into it, they will do it. You don't need to remind them on the next day, they will get back to you with an answer.

I didn't know about a RED TEAM link. I often use the view all posts from possibility.

Yeah, where is this RED TEAM link that you speak of Brent? I went through your forum comments and can't find it...

I'm assuming that by "Helium" you're referring to the E-W vs the Weapon Helium.. Eitherway, based on Brent's previous comments you're keeping the body and they're changing a few cosmetic things on the outside like the token and the name on the side of the camera.

As soon as you move from EPIC-W HELIUM or GEMINI into DSMC2 HELIUM or GEMINI, your standard warranty converts from a 1-year to a 2-year. So, if you are still under your original standard warranty, tack on a year.

But, no, not a new camera. We are updating your existing EPIC-W.

Unified!

Congrats Jarred, Brent and the rest of the team at RED. This is a big step in the right direction that some seem to be overlooking.

Why unified DSMC2 could be so big?

Unified hardware opens the doors for R&D and time to be spent on non-unified aspects such as sensors. Not having to develop new hardware and boards for each sensor is more crucial for the future then I think most currently are realizing. At least that’s how I see it. There seems to be a lot more to it then what’s currently visible.

Though, this doesn’t mean that you need to pull out your plastic and type in the numbers right away. It’s just an option that is available...the same goes for all previous options that RED has made available in the past. It’s an unforced decision one must make.

In the same way more thought should be put in the decision to type in numbers, more thought should be put into being quick to critique the options RED provides.

Things take time. Change is good. More often then not, it is an advantage to the image creator...not to RED.

Make a decision. Base it on what’s best for you, at the time. Don’t try to predict the future, or worry you will be left out. My decision is to still be on a MX sensor. I don’t feel left out. Even with the potential options and paths I could have chosen. It’s a decision I’m very happy with, still to this day.

Jarred, Brent and the rest at RED always step way beyond what’s needed to help customers. They do everything possible to make things right. In every situation. In every instance. No matter if you are the smallest or largest customer. Doesn’t matter. This deserves a tonne of respect.

Guys, as I have stated twice already, I have asked our finance team to move up our scheduled exchange rate analysis window. We normally do this once a quarter or so.

Yes, there are other factors of cost when shipping internationally so it won't ever match the exact exchange rate due to those costs.

They are working on it, and I expect updates this week. And when I have them, I will post here.

So, please be patient. We cannot do our due diligence any faster.

We have completed our analysis ahead of our normally scheduled cycle. Our EU pricing has been updated both on product pages as well as our support documentation.

Brent you mention standard warranty converts a 1 year to a 2 year. What happens to a armor warranty? In my case I have a year of armor left in July. By the time an upgrade happens I might have a bit less than a year. Would I end up with 2 years standard warranty?

lol ummmm NO. How about everyone who got the Epic-W for 20K, whether it was because they traded in their Red-One or any other old camera? And how about how even if they bought the EW for 30k and drop another 5k they're still getting s 50k camera at the EOD. Also no one is trading in their new camera for this upgrade so nice try valuing all of these cameras at the retail price.

Just to be clear, they are getting a $25k camera at the end of the day. Technically speaking.

My rep said they are working with everyone individually, I have already been taken care of. I was offered a considerable discount to take my Helium to Monstro, and I gladly took it!

So everyone who paid for Weapon Helium full price needs to contact RED directly? Very confusing...

What about the authorized dealer upgrade method? I understood those are going to basically be trade ins for new cameras but with an extended 2yr warranty from original purchase.

Noah, I might be wrong, but I think dealers are only handling SCARLET-W and DSMC1 DRAGON trade-ins. So, yes, that is a new camera.

If it is a board/sensor update only, it is an update. The dealer would simply be acting as a drop off/pick up point, getting it back to us for updating.

Now, if a dealer takes in a camera for a board/sensor update, and gives you back a new camera, whoops on their end, ha.

You get an additional year of standard warranty tacked on.

Out of curiosity why the change from 1-year to 2-year? That is an awesome bonus that I feel is not being mentioned as much!

I just want to mention Brent has been amazing taking care of me, I actually feel bad of so many back and forward e-mails, because of so many good options he gave me. Betting in the long term for the users I think is always the best way. So really thanks so much for that great customer support to Jarred and Brent.

And sorry for so much email spam!

Second that. Jarred and Brent have been nothing short of excellent. That's why I buy Red cameras. The whole deal- not only the image, but the whole support and taking care of its costumers. Second to none.

Thanks Brent.
thats a quite nice price drop on most of the upgrades.
Lets see if some of the European redusers appreciate it and send me whisky like you suggested.
I will still have to convince my business partner to spend the money for the scarlet-w to gemini upgrade.

That's probably the fairest conversion i've ever seen.

Very much appreciated. Thank you all and have a great weekend break.

cheers

Oh, and I just paid € 29.800($34,900) for the upgrade to MONSTRO(scheduled in Jan) after upgrading my MG from 2016 to Helium in 2017 to stay on top, like a good boy.

First my camera devaluates by price drop, then I pay too high an exchange rate and then my camera devaluates even more due to the exchange rate adjustment.

This is an unfortunate chain of events and I just took what looks like a €35.000/$40.000 hit.

I have been onboard since 2007 and the RED One and I love the cameras and the service and openness of RED, but right now I am not a happy customer.

There were discussions about that for years. We never had any answer until now. European customers always paid a lot more for cameras and accessories. Seeing by how much Red decreased the EU price here just shows how wrong it was during all these years. Hard to swallow.
