  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Side Handle

I've dismounted the lens but not side handle. I'll give that a shot, thanks!

Also, I've tried remapping the focus wheel but that's not an option in advanced settings, and ops guide gives the same indication. But there could definitely be something I'm missing.
 
I've a quick question about the side handle.

How robust is the physical connection to the brain, i'm still waiting for my E-W so i don't have direct experience but looking at photos the bolts are pretty small and they don't travel in so far. So my concern would be wanting to hold the brain/lens via the side handle and that then breaking off. I know the description says 30lb but looking at the connections i'd be a little doubtful?

This is actually the most SOLIDLY connected Handle I have ever used on any camera, except for those of which the Handle is actually part of the Body... So worry NOT about anything with this one, it's far more robustly connected then the original DSMC handle by a very long shot... :)

As you can see for the pictures, it has 4 bolts connecting it to the actual Brain, and it's surface of contact with the Brain is huge, hence it's very solid grip to the body and capacity to hold what ever weight you can hold, that I am sure of.
 
Any solutions for unmounting the side handle quickly for gimbal use? That's the only thing keeping me from buying one as I go from handheld/run n gun to gimbal. If not then gonna go a different route.

It takes all of a minute to remove it, but does require a tool.
A second body would be faster :)
 
Just wondering if the shipping time of 7-10 days is accurate. Ordered from a dealer 3 weeks ago and still no indicator that it is shipping. Anyone order one two weeks ago and received it?

Hi Andy,

I purchased one from RED directly on 10/21, and haven't heard anything back yet.
 
Sometimes my sidehandle is not recognized. I sent to Red and they said they fix it...but sometime I need to reboot the camera to male it work. Strange things I nitice are: when the camera is just turned on (cold) the handle is not recognized then if Inturn off (after get the temperature) and on again it work. Also oftne happen with the Canon Lens 35mm 2.2 any advice? Other than that the camera works great.
 
Just picked up my side handle. Can't wait to use it. Props again to my rep Hunter Delaney for making this happen!
 
The issue I have now is if you pull focus with the sidehandle on epic w recording 60fps ONLY prores it will appear the proxy error. Camera log was fine we think is a bug in the firmware hope they will fix it soon!

How good is the focus control?

Has anyone posted a review of this with EF glass? Can it replace an RT Motion Latitude system with a thumb controller? That's what I currently use on a Dragon set up for one person run and gun. Really interested in the portability of the new DSMC2 system though.
 
This made my day as solo operator! Didn’t know about this feature! I have to buy some Canon glass. I guess lastest versions of 16-35, 24-70 and 70-200 they are all good glass right?
And Jarred or anyone from RED? Can I set sensitivity on focus wheel for focusing with Canon glass? That would be absolutely stunning if i could :)
