  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Release Build v7.0.2

Holding off on this update till they bring out a new firmware. :s After reading this thread I don't know if I'd even upgrade right away anymore when a new firmware release comes out.

So this mean they are working in a new firmware?

We are always working on new firmware :)

We actually have a new beta program we are officially launching next week for some of you that like to bang on things a bit earlier than others. It's actually an invite only program, but a lot of you here are doing the work testing testing and then testing some more in ways we could never replicate so ill just post the signup here in advance for you that are dedicating the time to go above and beyond.

It's not for the casual users... when it rolls out you need to do actual testing on the builds and provide continued feedback. But those that do, not onlydo you get get access to software builds earlier than everyone else, but will have the opportunity to try out new hardware and perhaps a discount on things here and there to compensate you for your time. We really do appreciate all you that are really good at breaking things :)

So anyways.. you can apply here. Don't tell anyone outside this thread yet as it's not actually starting till next week.

OOOHH Jarred , this is very nice ;)

The new Beta programmer sounds like a great idea but as I get paid to shoot I don’t think Beta firmware will cut the mustard with clients. Although FW 7.0.2 broke communication with my CN E Canons and is causing some transient glitches on LCDs I think people should put this into context. Overall the FW works well and the cameras record images perfectly. These problems should be placed in the “annoying” bin not the “catastrophe” bin. Hopefully the Beta program will catch more of these minor issues but so far none of these small glitches stop me shooting although I can be occasionally heard cursing Red after an update.

RED contacted me again and they're helping with the firmware issue! THANK YOUUUUUU

Thanks Jarred this is great! I wish I had time to do that, but Im sure this will be VERY helpful in order to get always a “super tested” firmware in our cameras! Thanks again for your continuous suoport !

When reading Jarred´s post (wich sounds supercool) I was thinking of a modified logo.......

How soon can we expect a new update to fix the RED Raven black screen, tearing screen, play back problems etc.?

Yes. I'm never worried about my camera actually getting the shot, thankfully. I also rarely use playback, but the one time I needed it in Spain it crapped out on me, and cost me another 15 minutes in time because we were filming in a tourist attraction and had to hide when new groups came in. So it really screwed me there. You don't look good when your camera doesn't function.

On set, depending upon the client, not having playback (at least without a minute downtime to restart) could be a deal breaker. The person who's renting my cam today told me it cropped up on him a couple of times. Thankfully it wasn't a huge deal for him on set, but that could have cost me someone renting my camera again.

Now it's my fault for not researching. I thought I could roll back a point version. I misread the email, and I was having some issues that it fixed. But what I got was worse and slower (I was on one of the 6 versions). So I'm not blaming RED in the least, but I'd like to have my camera functioning properly ASAP. :)

That's awesome!

Count me in please. I've already applied through the provided link.

Thank you,

I shot 5 hours on my gemini today with no issues, I have about 24 more hours of shooting the next 2 days will report back, my epic-2 and scarlet are still on older firmware

Had issues too with Sigma Cine primes. The previous firmware was able to read aperture and focus info. Now says N/A and i get weird glitches everytime i playback or magnify.
