  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Release Build v7.0.2

On my Weapon MG, I have odd almost re-power up artifacts happening when changing resolutions and toggling magnify. Uploaded an Iphone video on my screen when doing this (just has the resolution change but same symptoms with magnify). Private link below. Any one else experiencing this?

Yep, happen to mine as well..
And now my camera has this error code again "error 0x0000001d SHUTDOWN" 4 times in a row today.. :(

Sorry, but this version of the firmware gives real problems! ... a new update becomes urgent! ...

Im on Sacrletw. Actually dropped it from a small height (its insured) and broke the side handle. I hadnt shot with it aince updating the firmware. Since the drop and since updating when I go to playback or change resolution or framerate. 50% of the time the screen goes blank. Sdi feed still going to gratical eye. I then have to powerdown the camera and restart before I can shoot. Monitor wasnt on when it dropped. I thought it was the small drop whixh the side handle took the brunt of, am still sending off shortly to have checked over... but now I think it may be the firmware. Thoughts?

Screen problem on 7.0.2

Screen problem on 7.0.2

I updated my S-W two days ago to the new version 7.0.2, and since then, while I'm recording and using the camera, randomly, and usually every minute, the screen shows some lines, it goes off and then returns working for 1 second. It does not affect the recorded material, but you can not focus and see what you are shooting for that second. In the previous version I had never had an issue like that, but unfortunately, you can not downgrade from version 7.0.2 to version 7.0.1

That's the exact look I'm getting on my Weapon MG, but when changing resolutions and going to play. Haven't recorded for too long, but will see if have the same issues as your's.

Probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but I think this looks really bad for red. I know realeasing new updates without issues is incredibly hard due to so many variables. However, I harderly ever hear other camera manufactures breaking their cameras when updates go out. I know red is not alone on this, however it seems like this happens on red more often than not. Now when new updates come out I dont know if i should update or not because I am afraid to break my camera. I thinks this is really really bad, maybe red should look into more software quality control.

I had some sort of proxy error while shooting on my Epic W. It said the card was full but it was still showing 10min record time. The camera completely froze and I missed the shot. I also had the pink line on my monitor and had to reboot. I can't really trust this camera as I also had to fight through the audio popping in the previous firmware.

Glad I kept my Dragon as it's been rock solid.

Hope there is an update soon.

Getting aperture issue on my
Sigma 24-70 f2.8, GDU 40mm f2.8, GDU 24mm f2.8
All my lenses with slower and faster than 2.8 are fine e.g. Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 canon 24-105 f4

Totally agree. Majority of the time I have very little issues. However, it's crazy to me that after owning the camera for years and many firmwares updates, I'm still having bugs or even had the frozen the camera in the middle of a project. I'm sure it's difficult to get a bug-free camera and RED does offer a great product, but it just sucks to not have complete confidence in your camera's stability.

Is there a way to go back to the old firmware somehow? I have two projects this month and I can't have any trouble with the camera. RED any news? It's been almost a month! WORRIED!

My Raven has been going black when using 1:1 magnification, and of course slower boot and auto calibration message (I was on 6 before so that’s new to me). When I had a second monitor up that wasn’t a big deal since I use a larger monitor, but I was hiking in Mallorca with it and didn’t always have a second monitor to check focus so that wasn’t fun.

I'd expect this from alpha and beta tests for sure. No problem there. I never download them. I use my camera multiple days every week and cant risk these issues. Didnt expect this on new official firmware release. I adore Red but yeah maybe this is an area where they need to take more time. Maybe rlease less builds and spend more time ensuring these seemingly very obvious bugs (to anyone spending a reasonable amount of time with the camera) are ironed out.

Apparently, my Raven is also freezing on any playback. I had it happen to me in Spain, but I thought it was an isolated incident. Someone rented the camera and told me playback did it to them as well. No bueno.

Exactly... it just makes me wonder if they even take the time to test the firmware on other cameras, because it seems like lots of people on helium are ok, but ravens and scarelt ws are crapping out. Love to hear a response from red about this because like you said it feels like alpha firmware, I like red but this....I cant let this one slide. The worse thing about it all, is that when the new software comes out "fixing" things people are going to be a afraid to update because it may break other thing.

Updating my report here.

I've been working with RED Support and they issued me a private beta build for Raven. It resolved the pink/black lines on the 4.7" screen during switching from playback to record modes. It also fixed the f/2.9 readout for f/2.8 lenses.

Has your camera been stable ever since they sent you the custom firmware? I have just recieved the same and just sseing if there are any bugs you have come across in the build they sent you

Hey guys, recently I upgrade to firmware 7.0.2 and my screen went black every time I wanted to use the playback, i send an email to RED support and they sent me a new firmware 7, and my camera worked perfectly, I think you guys should try!
