  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Firmware 6.4.21 , Scarlet-W and Weapon MG Spec increases

I just updated the SW beta firmware and right of the bat it recognized my side handle. I am also amazed at how easy is the update process.
Thank you Red.

I can't roll back to the last release firmware build with this.

Yeah, this is kind of a big oversight. I figured I could try out this beta (after waiting for the bugs the be squished on the last) and now I can't roll back to a release build? Luckily I'm doing post on some projects this week so I'm not in need of my camera for any big jobs.

Or is it possible to roll back to the last beta, then roll back to the release from there?

Wow, you added 4K Prores to my Weapon... for free!

:) :) :)

"HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM !!" Impossible to roll back to build 6.3.78 ... Impossible to roll back to build 6.4.17 ... impossible to sleep tonight 'cause I have a shoot tomorrow ^^ HELP !!! I promise next time I will try when I'll be in vacation :))

I'm just going to put it out there, and I understand it's not quite the Red ethos BUT...

How do you feel about 3840 x 2160 @ PR 422 HQ on S-W,

This would basically sort out my life forever.

ahaha, waiting for the next release... assume is coming very soon: 6.3.96...

Very very soon... sorry because of the spec change the beta needed to come out before the new roll back 6.3x release.

What an amazing update! 12bit 4K DNxHR! Thank you Red!

Will we ever get to see 100+ fps DNxHD or Prores in 2K for the Scarlet-W? Or is that just not possible? As a documentary DoP having the option to only use Prores or Avid codecs is really handy.

Hope "very very soon" is tonight :)) ... don't know how I'm gonna do tomorrow ... why I did that ... why

For whatever it is worth, the beta seems perfect, I know not to be used for real important shoots, but I have not been able to break it. Also, the focus wheel on the side handle seems even better.

Really won't let me roll back to the official firmware.. Hopefully i won't have any issues on set of my film this weekend.. Smh

The build will be coming out very soon. Jarred explained on Facebook, the new RELEASE build doesn't include the new 4K ProRes for Scarlet-W, but it at least acknowledges it.

The issue was that by pushing so far forward, bringing all-new functionality to these cameras, if you rolled back and then played a 4K ProRes clip in camera, it would do funky things to your camera. The beta fixes a LOT of the problems of the last build, so if you want to stay on the bleeding edge, you can upgrade, but know you can not downgrade until the save-your-ass release build comes out tonight/tomorrow morning.

It's not an oversight. It's a condition of having firmware that goes so far that it massively expands the capabilities of the cameras.

If you have nothing to lose, download it and throw it on your camera. Try to break it. Then send the log files to RED. Otherwise, stay on the current release build until the next build comes out. Then you can flip flop between beta/release all you want.

I really love the "save your ass release build" !! :001_tt1:

Sometimes I want to cry for being a noob but how to learn without making mistakes ? :)

Awesome. 4K ProRes will be super useful for us on long interview shoots. Thank you for the unexpected spec bump!
