Thanks for everyone that hammered on the beta build last week and submitted your log reports, that feedback allowed us to kill a bunch of bugs in record time.

Along the way getting to 6.4.2 cleaned up so much old code it also allowed us to squeeze out a bit more out of Scarlet-W and Weapon MG in the form of increased ProRes formats:

SCARLET-W and WEAPON 6K Magnesium will receive increased specs via firmware update:

SCARLET-W and SCARLET-W Monochrome changes include:

• Increased Max Data Speed: up to 170 MB/s using RED MINI-MAG®
• Added Apple ProRes 422 and 422 LT at 4K (4096 × 2160) up to 29.97 fps
• Added Avid Codecs DNxHR, SQ and LB at 4K (4096 × 2160) 8-bit up to 29.97 fps

WEAPON 6K Magnesium changes include:

• Added Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 422 and 422 LT at 4K (4096 × 2160) up to 29.97 fps
• Added Avid Codecs DNxHR HQX at 4K (4096 × 2160) 12-bit up to 29.97 fps, DNxHR HQ, SQ and LB at 4K (4096 × 2160) 8-bit up to 29.97 fps

Also, We as I mentioned in the last update we have increased our manufacturing spend significantly to catch up with the demand and backorder specially on Raven and Scarlet-W lines, and to offset those costs we are increasing the price on both Raven and Scarlet W.

Effective immediately, RED RAVEN to $8,950 (£7,970 & 9,030€) and SCARLET-W & SCARLET-W Monochrome to $12,500 (£11,130 & 12,615€). If you already have a deposit in you will pay the old lower price when your camera is ready to ship. All deposits placed after the time of this post will be paying the new prices.

Existing deposits also are entitled to the old pricing for upgrades, i.e. if you have a Raven deposit and want to upgrade to Scarlet-W before your Raven ships you can do so to the old Scarlet-W price of $9950.

Its also a good time to remind people that these are BETA builds. We plaster Beta all over the place for a reason... these builds we really are pushing out a lot of new things and there are going to be some bumps along the way.. you should not be just blindly installing these builds on your cameras in the middle of a "Work" shoot until you have tested them yourself and feel confident in how you use your cameras before introducing beta firmwares into your commercial jobs.

Our Release builds are perfect for those that prefer stability over bleeding edge. After we work out the bugs of these 6.4.2 Betas, it will turn into the 7.0 Release Build... so if Beta builds scare you... wait for that.

And please... EVERYONE should secure format all their cards when they move to a new build in camera on the new build and also do a new calibration. It's just good practice, specially when we added so many file format changes.

way to go on the fast bug fixes.. good job everyone involved. this can't be easy.. Thank you

Happy Magnesium user here. Thanks to the RED heads and team to make the camera even better (@ no cost)! This rewrite is huge.

In case anyone is having trouble installing, secure format your card.

I tried 3 times and each time the camera would boot into 6.4.17, and automatically delete the force_upgrade folder. Then connecting it to the computer to try again, I'd get a "card full" message. So then I'd have to go back to camera and format it again. I tried UDF and FAT32 and neither worked until I did a secure format.

Thanks for the update guys!

Good advice right there. Thanks Aaron.

Pound for pound, Scarlet-W is just incredible.

And just to state something here that's a bit obvious, this is a free firmware update that just added a pretty big feature to all of your cameras.

No other company does what RED does...nor do I think any camera company ever will. I'm just honored to be a part of such an amazing family/community because frankly, we're the best family on the planet! hehe

So, many thanks to you and everyone at RED Jarred. Keep killing it!

All the love. Seeing the words "cleaned up old code" next to a set of firmware spec bumps is a nerd's dream. Always fascinated with what's on the horizon, after the IPP2 dust settles and new things become the target of imagination.

I've already been celebrating on Facebook, but just wanted to add my sincere thanks on here as well. A year later and I'm as proud as ever to be a Red owner. :)

Once again RED did it again.... Grande!!!!... You guys are outta this planet!

Pound for pound, Scarlet-W is just incredible.

That's why I ordered a Scarlet-W and didn't regret the extra bux, even though Jarred convinced me along with a bunch of others to stretch my budget to squeeze Epic-W into it.

Yeah, that's a rarity these days. Most companies would charge a non-trivial fee for a new feature like that. Even the new IPP2 features, whether you get them in camera or not, would have involved an upgrade fee from most companies, I'd wager.

I loved the first beta and I'm sure I'll love the second!

Not sure if this is the right place for a feature request, but... would it be possible to see a change so users can input multiple characters for the shot # on the DSMC software slate? This would be a great addition, even if it's down the road. Right now I have to use the "scene #" metadata field and putting shot numbers as scene numbers is no fun. :(

Regardless, keep up the great work!

Very cool. Thanks guys. I was loving a lot of the features of the new build but started having issues with the side handle and had to jump back. I am shooting the next few days but as soon as I finish up I am going to try this out.

not sure if this is new, but I love it that when you are in log view the monitor states it in green up top. Been a while since I had log view
