  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Firmware 6.4.21 , Scarlet-W and Weapon MG Spec increases

Thanks so much for the 4k 422. This is a huge thing as some small projects really don't need more than that. I thought initially it was only 4k prores LT, but regular 422 is huge.

About R3D & Prores 4k 422 recording, can we still do both at the same time or this upgrade is prores 4k 422 recprding only ? sorry I can't install it right now to check.

What an amazing update! 12bit 4K DNxHR! Thank you Red!

Will we ever get to see 100+ fps DNxHD or Prores in 2K for the Scarlet-W? Or is that just not possible? As a documentary DoP having the option to only use Prores or Avid codecs is really handy.
The downside to not shooting R3D is you don't get IPP2. I do understand the big turn around time and storage pros for do doing this.

Nice to see an update with so many fixes (and cool new features) so fast.

This update did worry me a bit when I put it on my Epic-W. After successfully updating when the camera finished booting the record button was blinking and SSD activity light was also blinking. The LCD showed 5% SSD available, though it was empty. After I did a secure erase of the mag, then it suddenly acting normal.

Other observations thus far:
1) Sigma 18-35 on Canon mount seems to be working fine now. I get lens data and can change aperture without locking up
2) Still no battery info from the Wooden Camera cableless battery plate (Gold mount in my case)
3) After camera starts up and video/overlays/menu buttons are showing my 4.7" LCD flickers to black and then back. Doesn't seem to affect functionality.

Feels like the testing process needs a bit more rigor on catching regressions, but excited to see a stable 7.0!

I saw some hypercore battery percentage weirdness, but just let it drain, full charged it and all good, weird how it still says VM instead of percentage

I've installed this Beta and in my Weapon MG if I choose 4K ProRes at the same time as R3D, there is a warning message saying that the ProRes was disable because of compression ratio choosen for the R3D is not supported. Even if I choose the highest compression ratio (22:1), the message stays the same. If I choose 2K the ProRes is enabled. Also good if I only record in ProRes at 4K.

Not sure if this is a bug of this Beta or if it's supposed to stay like this (4K ProRes recording allowed only when ProRes coded is used alone).

Anyone from RED Team can clarify this?

Thanks!

I'm sure this is a groaner of a question. But with the production capacity increase, how current is the red.com shipping estimate for "Summer 2017"? The price increase isn't as bad as Jarred seemed to let on and I hope the production capacity increase doesn't come back to bite you. I think it's really cool that you were "forced" to increase production capacity. The more people out there making awesome art is always better.

So if I order today is it fair to say 3 months, 4 months, shorter, longer? And yes, I know that question has lots of caveats involving production pipeline issues. I know this question is a big thorn in Red's side and I am sorry to ask it.

Peter, we are actually in a pretty good groove on new product production planning, so it is getting more and more predictable...

I would say a new SCARLET-W order today, 3-4 months would be a conservative expectation...

This Wood Camera Trigger handles record button does not function with this newest beta. I never updated to the last beta so not sure if it worked then or not, but it did work on the latest release firmware.

Attached modules menu shows canon mount, and "wooden camera easy top plate". I do not own a top plate. Never looked on this menu before, so not sure if it recognized it the same way on the non beta firmware or not.

during the upgrade when the camera rebooted, it updated modules. my trigger handle was NOT connected during the reboot. wonder if this could potentially be the issue. I read somewhere that it's best to have the camera bare when performing updates.

Cicero, have you tried booting the camera up with the switch set to R/S? Mine will not work unless it is toggled ON during boot up. Mine worked fine with the last release build.

I feel like a fool. This was the issue. thanks

Guys I havent tested the beta as Im doing some works, do I need to install the latest built 6.3.98 or is better if I wait the official (I suppose) 7? Can I go straight from 6,3.78 or is better if I update to 6.3.98? Thanks!

Thanks for the tip, Brent! I have a new employer and I am trying to convince them to get a Scarlet-W. But they are wary of the wait times involved. So the more information I can placate them with the better.

I've just got back from a gig and had a chance to update my Epic-W, I love this update! Life just keep getting better and better since I moved to RED!
