  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC2 Beta Build v6.4.17 / IPP2 / April Shipment Update

The second thing that's way worse for me is that the menu is freezing randomly. The feed is coming trough but recording or entering the menu, switching resolution or WB freezes. Sometimes for a couple of seconds but sometimes I have to restart the system.

Have to rollback for the job next week.
But guys really good job I like it a lot:)

I am having the same issues with the 4.7 monitor. It will freeze when I make a setting on the camera. Going to rollback as well. On a Raven!

Some amazing new features and playing around with IPP 2 here this evening. One question maybe someone can answer, the images in play back look super contrasty and different from record or how they appear in RCX with IPP2. Is there something I'm missing here in terms of configuring playback in camera?

Same here. My director won't like this :-)

Baking IPP2 into ProRes is tricky, and we know people want it. I've asked engineering to take a look and see if it's possible.

Graeme

Much appreciated! I understand the IPP2 pipeline is basically Luts that get applied to the screen output to bake them in in realtime and write them is hard...
If it's it possible would also help just have the option to bake in DC1/RG4 while in Ipp2 mode... (like in legacy mode)
These prores files are great for some clients to have something to look at for dailies etc.

Has anybody with the Element Technica Gold Mount plate upgraded to this beta firmware yet? Wondering if like the WC module, I will lose battery percentage info.

We only used LUTs for preview or for use with grading apps. In camera, the IPP2 is done via math, and the pipeline won't allow for your suggestion. We know that a fully baked proxy is something people really want though.

Whats the best workflow for applying IPP2 when editing with Premiere? Once I've converted the footage to IPP2 in Red Cine how do I get that footage into Premiere with the adjustments applied without transcoding the footage? Or is that not yet possible?

The is truly awesome news!

Thanks to all those involved. Wow!

So what is the extra features for magnesium weapon that jarred mentioned? Is it in here?

Yes it's here!

Couple of problems tough.

I really miss on the histogram the info what I'm doing. I now feel the urge to double check everytime I start up that the camera is not going back to legacy.

So it looks like the freezing only occurs with the sigma 18-35 "Photo" version on there.
With my zeiss ZF it's all good.

That seems to be right, I've got the sigma 18-35 photo and response time is pretty slow on the touch screen. I go to my sigma 50-100 photo and it's significantly better. Even the wireless focus on foolcontrol is way more responsive with the 50-100.

3 issues after update:

1. Battery Voltage is no longer being displayed on monitor - Using WC Cableless Gold Mount
2. Highlight Rolloff Selection - Not actually making a different on the image, looks the same no matter the density chosen.
3. On Playback, images appear much more contrasty VS when recorded

Any thoughts/discoveries?

Weapon dragon vistavison sensors won't support IPP2

This is the same question I have. It is Dragon sensor tech, so older, but is also the top end camera IMO.

From what I've been told by RED it sounds like Helium sensor camera bodies feature a bit of new hardware to allow for "parts" of IPP2.

It makes me a grumpy octopus with all my arms cross that I'll have two 8K bodies running slightly different menus, but as a dexterous cinematographer cephalopod I'll find a way to adapt to my environment in the meantime.

The good news is you can "monitor" RWG/Log3G10 in DSMC2 cameras and BT.1886 for that matter. You just don't have all the fancy flexibility, which admit-ably is going to be a sonofabitch on multi-cam shoots for a bit.

In the meanwhile I pray that their might be some sort of upgrade or crazy firmware programming fix that gets us there.

firmware license maybe ? or hardware upgrade more likely right?
