  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Release v7.0.0

Noticed that the latest IPP2 LUTs are still in BETA - any word on when the final version will be coming out?

https://www.red.com/downloads/58de98eff77f300ebe00053f

Also, I downloaded RCX 50. Just to confirm, there is no longer a FLUT control - it's been renamed to Exposure?

Correct, it is now named Exposure. I actually kind of miss the Shadow slider myself, as it feels weird to crush the blacks on the luma curve.

You can also now create your own LUTs from RCX v50. Doesn't look like those LUTs for download have been updated in a long while. (May not have had any changes.)

Whoa you can make your own LUTs? Okay gotta figure that out. Thanks!

So just shot with the pipeline for the first time. Overall impressed, but on-monitor contrast is a huge issue for me.

If I set the contrast in camera to low or medium, the image on screen looks almost like log - very flat, very low contrast. If I up the contrast to high, it just about looks okay. When I bring the footage into RCX the contrast settings look correct, and NOTHING like they did on the monitor. Epic-W, 7" touch.

I've only read through a few pages but from the looks of it I'd be safer not upgrading my Epic-W to this new release?

LUTs for IPP2 ! Need to correct myself, just incase. :) Added that bit because people mentioned the IPP2 luts were still “beta” and these can be made in app now, even in different cube size varieties.

Otherwise, I believe you can make CDLs from RCX at least. If you’re looking to create creative LUTs then Lightroom and CameraBag Cinema are great apps to do this.

Yup, I found it! Just need to go to File->IPP2 LUT Creator. Was able to export a bunch of LUTs for my friends to use for colouring. Thanks for the heads up!

There is a setting for the display gamma curve. I was monitoring in log for a while too before I realized that... most likely what's happening is that you're looking at log and adjusting contrast based on that on camera, and then in post looking at a Rec709 preview, which would then look far more contrasty than you expected.

Red support got back to me with this ".....confirmation from our Engineers that the raised black levels on both the monitors and in the recorded ProRes files when using IPP2 is a bug that they are currently working to address." This is good news as it is now officially a bug a FW fix should in due course head our way.

YES! I'm glad this is being taken care of.

Yeah, should have mentioned that my display gamma curve was set to 709. So that's not it. May be related to the raised blacks noted elsewhere.

Also:

+1 on fans blasting when going into playback
+1 on diagonal screen tear

And the camera takes sooooooooooo loooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg to boot up now. It's embarrassing when my Scarlet-X is the b-cam and it boots in 1/10 the time.

Same issues here... but I am sure a new update will come soon and kick ass.... They always fix it :)

I always find it strange when a release build is this buggy. I mean, how did these things that lots of people are experiencing pass QC at red for a release build. Genuinely curious.

And honestly kinda pissed, it's annoying

Just got the beeping start-stop sound notifications coming from the camera again.

Menu>Settings>Recording>Indicator XEnable Sounds

Then -

Menu>Settings>Audio>Control>Channel 1+2> Camera Internal or Rear Analog (if you have the rear module attached).

This worked - only thing is I don`t want audio - but luckily I dont have rear module so setting it to that means I record nothing.

Seems like easy bug to squash.

I had a fan/temp issue on a shoot today running the new firmware. In an air conditioned room the camera's temp kept rising steadily until the sensor temp indicator was solid red +. Tried raising the target temp by a few degrees but the temp kept rising to over 60ºC. Tried both adaptive and adaptive quiet record with no success. Seems like others have had this issue— any fix besides reverting to older firmware?

Also sporadically had an issue where the RGB processing was totally off, showing raised blue levels regardless of white balance. R3D here.

Hi,

Is it possible to take care of this one please...

This problem was present in RedcineX Beta version, and it is still in the new release.
The aspect ratio is not good when viewed on a 2nd computer monitor.
Very annoying.

Thanks

BTW, both screens are 1920X1080

Why this remains a problem is beyond me. Really...this should not be an issue now. But it boned us a number of days on set. The only fix was to manually set the temperature lower in camera to get the fans to work while in standby by. No way to work, and supposed to be a mature system. I'm as big a Red fanboy as anyone else, but this really bothered me, my 1st camera assistant, and the DP.
