  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DSMC Camera Firmware release 5.1.55 and 5.2.21 beta

Graeme took the red channel code and put it in RCX... much better that way... as it remains upgradable over time and works with existing footage already shot with Dragon and the new OLPF. The power of RAW.

Thanks, so now we have to wait for Adobe and other third party to implement that new "magic" for us to take advantage of it outside of rescine right?

Sorry I'm confused. Is will this be activated through Redcine ONLY?

Great idea. Thanks again for the FW updates.

As of this second only in Redcine-X Pro. Red will add it to the SDK and get it to 3rd party developers to implement.

D.E.B. is happening at the time of debayer and there isn't a playback performance hit that I can measure, meaning you tick it on or off if you want it.

Once Red buttons up and finalizes the SDK it's up to the 3rd party peeps to drop it in various applications.

How close is 5.2 to becoming a release build?

In RCX and any SDK-aware applications, DEB should probably be "on" by default when Dragon footage is detected, no? I anticipate less well informed shooters being unaware of it and then complaining that their footage is still "noisy".

Unless there's some kind of tradeoff it feels safest to me for apps to force DEB to "on" until a user makes a positive choice to turn it off.

Apologies if this is already the case; haven't had a chance to test.

DEB looks like it does the job nicely!

Agree that by the looks of things it should be on as default. What would be the advantage of having it off? I cant think.

Great work and amazing that it works with shot footage.

So, to put it in very simple terms, this is basically working as a noise reduction piece of software to be used in post. Is that a correct assesement?

DEB should be a standard and not an option...why would anyone want to turn it off???

Intriguing. The results look very promising.

So will this software fix eventually be baked into a firmware fix?

Does this Release Build incorporate the ability to save 4 blackshade calibrations? Or is that still in the Beta only?

baby DRAGON is growing up so fast!

This seems so right. No loss of our highlight protection and a fix for anything undesirable in the shadows. Thanks for a Solomon-like solution.

Nice! Looking forward to D.E.B! Anyway to make this available in camera as well? Would be great to have this setting on by default on set when sending out to clients monitors. Makes things even more pretty. Thanks for the update!

Looks great!

Will D.E.B be implemented in the camera firmware for monitoring cleaner blacks as well? Or is it like DRX and will be in Redcine-x only?

Whoops just noticed that Matt asked this very question! Great minds think alike ;) hehe

This is soooo goood. thanks Graeme, thanks Jarred. niiiice!

Phil, can you repost your images in a butterfly layout in addition to, or instead of, side-by-side? I think that will make it easier to compare.

For you Stacey anything :)

Here's a sample laid out in an easier to A/B sort of way.
