Graeme has been working hard. Dragon Enhanced Blacks (D.E.B.) is tackling the "red specks" that effect midtones, darks, and shadows. You can see and feel the effect across the entire image.

Here are three samples on properly exposed ISO 2000 material:

Make sure to click those and open them in a new window or tab as these are 100% crops and you can see the effect that D.E.B. has on the image.

What's really cool is that this will work on previously shot material once it's implemented.

Does this build has the red channel noise fix? Or is that only happening in the SDK and RedCine-X?

Thanks for giving us another new camera for free.

Nice! Is this option in-camera or an extension of RCX?

Thanks for the testing Phil and John.

Graeme

Phil or John while we all wait is there anyway one of you guys could post motion clip 2sec even to see how fix reacts to noise motion?

Thanks and looking forward to an in camera implementation that provides a cleaner looking monitor image.

Most clients are expecting WYSIWYG at the monitor, so much so, that LUT boxes are sometimes employed just to emulate it. Lowering the noise floor in the monitor image should really help perceptions, and for the few shots that require it there's always Neat Video/etc to smooth it out later so they'll never know ;-)

Cheers - #19

Thank you for putting the hard work in. Just fired off a few tests and it's looking really nice in motion. I'll put some up on the 4K screen this evening, but my initial impressions are D.E.B. is pretty nice.

Graeme took the red channel code and put it in RCX... much better that way... as it remains upgradable over time and works with existing footage already shot with Dragon and the new OLPF. The power of RAW.
