DSMC Accessories

Over branding? We put our logo on the stuff we make. We are proud of it.

Sure - but please not in white on black. Think military field uniform insignia.
And in my experience, the only stuff labelled PRO is the wannabes and prosumer kit. Your equipment speaks for itself.

or ARRI or SONY or anyone else that makes products... this branding conversation is probably the most retarded thing I have read all year.

If you don't like our name.. go buy something else.

I can't believe people are bitching about us putting our name on our products. wowzers.

You know what it is, Jarred? People want to hide that their gear is Red lest everyone want to steal it. You're just that awesome.

Sort of like how the Spirit of Ecstasy can be retracted into the hood on a Rolls...

:D

I have to agree. How many people just posted their anti red pro comments on a macbook PRO with a big ass apple on it. shut her down, and bring on more pictures of accessories... price tags included please ( I must begin a budget ) my 17-50 is missing its epic counter part.

Here here! I am very proud of RED, and the branding is much classier than most companies. I love the new Clutch handles in particular. I can't wait to show off my bold Scarlet with RED and use the "Shot on RED" logo in my films. So ridiculous people choose to complain about branding...

Jarred, some times people just have nothing else to do but bitch about nothing, don't even answer those kind of posts, they are not worth it

Jarred,
When might the quick release be avail for purchase. I saw one and it is so light and cool I just have to have one.....

Peter

Looks amazing, making me feel comfortable that Red is on the way back as the leader and the front runner in digital cinema equipment. One must agree that Sony and Arri, especially Arri has made huge impact on the crowd lately, especially in Europe.

I'm not bitching, just giving feedback from someone who cares about industrial design aesthetics. Let's remember that Red's original philosophy was to get lots of feedback from forum users to help shape the product - part of what made Red successful.

We welcome to all feedback.. and I assure you we have a very, very special folder for comments like " stop putting logos on your product " :)

All this products look great! Few questions:

- for the ones that don't own a Red (either One, Scarlet, Epic): they can start to use this kind of equipement with other cameras (DSLR), right,? As they're waiting to put their hand on a DSMC?
- looks to me like you don't really want to do your shooping online for those specific equipments, unless you've had the opportunity to see them for reel before (or found a great video review on Vimeo :))... I'm guess the ones who'll make it to the NAB will have that chance... For those who may go to LA later n the year, is this something we'll be able to see and touch (and get advices) at the shop you have there?

Overbranding

Overbranding

I have to admit that i'm also biased to products with less branding on them.
I tend to tape off all the Logos on my gear, because people often reduce gear to the brand.
Like: "oh look he uses canon, oh look nikon, oh look iPhone"

I don't think it is the most retarded discussion. I bet that even a Star-Designers like John Ive would probably prefer getting rid of the apple logo from his designs, because they would look even better. And just because everyone else does it doesn't mean one has to follow.
I thought that RED's philosophy was to change the industry, change all that big name bullshit and be the one that goes the other way. Making great products that stand for themselves.

I think good design can stand out by itself. you never see a big fat logo on a piece of designer furniture.
But everyone still knows what it is.

Anyway, before i get kicked of this forum i would like to add that it's just my opinion.

So...? What's the point? Sure, people reduce gear to logo (or product in general), this is why we can purchase quality - ie, RED = best damn digital cinema camera system (IMO)... It's like running shoes... You buy the brand that works for you but you don't cover their logos...

Who's Mr. Ive? I have to agree with those siding on the retarded side... You don't like the branding, geek the shit out of your gear... Big deal.

RED's products do stand for themselves... With their name on it as well... And they have changed the industry. I don't recall anyone from RED ever saying they were trying to change "big name bullshit"... But they did accomplish what they set out to do...

I know I can't identify any piece of furniture's manufacturer...

This is subjective and opinion based - and retarded at same time... Don't like the branding, cover it or buy something else.

RED wants feedback, yes... I would put #994 on the line that if a poll was taken, those who prefer no branding would fall into a teeny tiny percentage of just those who took the poll... maybe 2% on the best of days...

I think the branding should be bigger. How many times has someone been staring at smart side of camera and asked, "Is that the new Sony?" "What kind of camera is that?" Nevermind mind the metallic "RED"...
Can you guys re-design ALL cameras beginning with the word RED as the basis of design? Just take a block of the letters and then fit everything inside... (See, that would be retarded...)
