  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

I hope you mean quantitative easing; I'm not cool with changing the laws of physics.
I think Quantum Easing is the proper term for the land of Quantum of Solace '-)

Just ordered the Dragon upgrade for my Epic. Yay! Hoping for a busy Spring so I can afford the Weapon when available.

If the Euro pricing is significantly out of whack for rhe upgrade now, it will be because RED thinks that'll be correct for the upgrade once it is ready to ship.

Effectively they are betting that any reduction in sales from higher Euro pricing is still going to out perform the lost margins if they priced it at today's rate and then had to sell at that rate when they are ready to ship.

As I paid from a Euro account my Dragon Update, I made a deposit last May. From there on it went down. I was just in time. Well, this time ;o) I got my Dragon many month later, while the Euro was already much weaker.

Reading through the Euro development estimations, it seems to get rather worse than better this year: To wait now might be even more expensive.

We don't really see that much of an issue. $9,500 equates to roughly £6,500 - which would always be subject to VAT and import duty making it circa £8,200 landed on UK soil. That's roughly what we've just paid to RED Europe plus the VAT will be offset towards future VAT returns.

Luca, the prices were adapted to the high value of the dollar unluckily just last week.
It's the same thing Apple did just recently. There's import tax and what not, which adds to the cost here in Europe. You can probably always try to buy in the U.S. and do the whole import stuff yourself. Ketch Rossi is also offering some service of the kind.

i don't get why 9.500$ in USA are 10.070€ in Europe
this is the price that i found on the site when i want to upgrade my scarlet

is it correct?

Plus the conversion, you have to add shipping and insurance (let's say around 400€ per unit) + 8% of import tax.
Price tag should be around 9700€ so there's a difference of almost 400€.
If you're VAT registered I wonder if ordering directly in the US wouldn't be the best call even if you have to pay the VAT you can still claim it later.
Maybe Alan or someone at Red Europe HQ could jump in and give us their opinion?
Regarding my company I have to declare all items over 500€ so picking up the camera in the US and not paying the import tax is not a good call.
Especially if you need to do temporary export later.

I just paid for the upgrade of my Scarlet. Dragon is going to happen for me!
I'm so excited. :)

Yep! I sent RED $9500 today, and I've never been more stoked to hand over my hard-earned cash! :001_tt1:

I'm curious, I've paid for the upgrade like three weeks ago and sent in the camera two weeks ago. Is my account information supposed to change to reflect me owning a Dragon whenever I've paid for it or when does it change to reflect that? I paid through my bomb rep instead of through the store online.

Mine changed once I'd taken delivery of my unit.

For everyone with a Dragon... NAB is gonna be awesome.

For everyone that hasn't upgraded yet.... you are best to get that done before the show.

It will be worth it.

I'm sorry but for someone that just scrambled & paid to upgrade a couple weeks ago to Scarlet Dragon based entirely on the above statement, I feel completely let down and betrayed by what's been announced today at NAB. It definitely hasn't been 'worth it'.

Like I said, you're not alone mate. Many feel this way. But you should go to sleep happy knowing you have a Dragon sensor that is AMAZING. Simply put thats the main ingredient and you at least have it now. But yes, the promises to intice you to upgrade...not cool

You saved 2.5K on the Dragon upgrade and have the whole weapon line-up available to you to upgrade to (should you wish) with a 5K accessory credit. Betrayed - really ? Is that not a bit strong ?

Betrayed? There's not going to be a lick of difference between footage shot in Epic Dragon, Scarlet Dragon 5k, or Weapon at that Res. Buy the new $500 pro res recorder from Black Magic, spend the other $24,500 on some lenses. Seriously. People need to stop chasing K's. There's more to this art. We are getting to the point where the reel is really the tie breaker. Not another 2000 pixels.
