  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dragon upgrades

And yes.... All Dragons will be able to advance to the next round.

WOW - coolest post of the day? Besides Weapon, and 8K?

Jarred, I love this.

Great to know Scarlet and Epic D's still have a FUTURE.

Obsolescence obsolete INDEED.

You guys rock.

...For those that are looking to upgrade to Weapon, with the credit of $5000 plus the value of your trade in makes the upgrade fee almost cancel itself out. Add the $2500 NAB week credit for the upgrade and it becomes even better. Upgrading is always an option. ...

Wow, so I catch a few hours of sleep and things changed already!
The acc credit is being offered for after NAB now as it seems?
If so that's great! :)

As I get it: everyone who upgrades from Dragon gets the acc credit no matter when he purchased the camera?
(Plus trade-in value for the camera which depends on when the camera was paid for.)

Does the acc credit still count towards the upgrade package as well!?

Thanks man. Dragons definitely have a future. That is why I told all you guys about Weapon 2 months ago, to give everyone plenty of time to upgrade to Dragon so you all could keep advancing as we all carry along the journey.

Very cool. I've been shooting/working with RED cameras in one way or other for over 7 years. Can't wait to keep it going!

Maybe I'm not running the numbers in my head correctly and if I stand corrected then I'm the one who is at fault and I apologize. Maybe my expectations were unrealistic? I could have sold my Scarlet MX Package for around $7000 (a guess based on prices I've seen). Taken my $9500 (Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon) that just paid and with that and gotten $5000 accessories credit (this NAB week only) for a total of $21500 towards Weapon with new accessories that I would have to buy anyway because they won't work with Weapon. As far as I know, I'm only getting $10,000 total towards a Weapon from Scarlet Dragon ($5,000 trade in credit & $5,000 in equipment credit). I don't know how to justify the numbers in my head. Again maybe I'm missing something, if I am, then I'm sorry.

Sorry maybe I'm not totally getting it, but it seems you're off a bit.

If you would've sold you're Scarlet MX for $7.000 that's it. No acc credit towards WEAPON if you purchase new. So that reduces your calculations by $5K - or did I miss anything?

So you would have kept your $9.500 + whatever you will sell your Scarlet for towards a new purchase.
Still more then the $10K RED is giving you, but you would need to have sold your camera and not have it until whenever you would get Weapon. And you will never know for how much your Scarlet will sell in a few months.

The way I see it (now after the acc credit is not limited to NAB week anymore): we paid $9.5K for the upgrade and get $10K in return. Plus we can use Scarlet Dragon until we're ready to go.

I probably won't be able to upgrade either way because Weapon is pretty high up the chain price wise (I was hoping for a different line-up more like Scarlet-D / Weapon small / Epic-D / Weapon big) but that's a different problem :)

Yes, yes, yes! :) sweet to hear! This is great!

And since you're in a giving mood, too: how about that Scarlet2Epic trade-in limit until June ;)
Since the Scarlet-Dragons will be in for the next round, you could keep the trade-in until the next round, no? ;) Hehehe.

Give me a finger, I'll take the whole hand!

Unless I read it wrong, THIS NAB WEEK ONLY you get $5,000 accessory credit when you order a new (non upgrade) Weapon. Perhaps I got that wrong, too.

I just found it, so I was wrong. The post was too confusing and the original first posts are still missing it as far as I can tell. So yeah. $5k acc credit when purchasing new during NAB 2015.

I stand corrected. :)

You get the $5000 credit if you are upgrading to Weapon from Dragon that you purchased before NAB.

You get the $5000 credit if you are buying a brand new Weapon during this week ( not the trade-in path, but the buy brand new path )

So come next week... If you buy a new Weapon, you do not get the $5000 credit.

But next week, or next year, if you decide to upgrade your Dragon that you bought before NAB to Weapon, you still get to have and use the $5000 credit.

Does anyone know what changes with upgrade options, if you use the Scarlet Dragon to Epic Dragon before the June deadline?

I just want to upgrade my Scarlet D to Epic D at some point in the future beyond the June deadline if at all possible as I'm not in a position to run out the door and do it immediately. It would potentially (who knows in this climate...) allow me to generate a little bit more income and slowly move to the new standard. Baby steps to the top for me. Please dudes.

Hi,

I'm amazed at Weapon and 8K sensor upgrade path later. I have 2 Epic Dragons which will be weaponized sooner but I also had a Scarlet MX which I wanted to upgrade as scarlet dragon. I was ready to pay the deposit and opened my account to got a shock that it has become $12.k again. Can you please extend the $9.5k upgrade rate till some more time. At the NAB frenzy did not expect this coming and all our attention on Weapon. At least a week more , we can pay the deposit for dragon upgrade. We are a bunch of Red lovers from India. I did not read it anywhere that costs will increase post 13th April :( can we get the upgrades for $9.5k ?

Thanks,
Aaranyan

I am assuming that there will be more modules coming out?...

When I go 8k CF i will struggle to spend all the $5k now..

Thanks

OK, after talking to Fury this morning and to Curt, Tom, and Clark just a few minutes ago, even these longtime RED guys had questions. And they are a lot smarter then me.

Let me try to tackle one of those questions. Let's do some math...

* I am an EPIC-M DRAGON owner that I had before NAB 2015.
* I am placing a pre-order for a WEAPON MAGNESIUM upgrade package.
* The brain and side SSD module I am sending back cost me $31,500 ($29,000+$1500).
* I am getting back $17,500 to send RED my brain and side SSD module.
* So, $17,500 subtracted from my initial ivestment leaves $14,000.
* Since I had my DRAGON before NAB, I am getting a $5000 accessory credit as well.
* My $14,000 net investment is down to $9000.
* I am getting an upgrade bundle which includes over $5000 of accessories at no additional charge. That is, I am getting a bundle with accessories that is the same price as a WEAPON MG brain only.
* My $9000 net is now down to $4000.

RED obsoleted Obsolescence Obsolete? I think the numbers tell a different story.

Thanks Brent for clarifying, I'm still confused by all the discount Math

As I understand it, and please do clarify if i'm mistaken (no sarcasm intended):

It is $34,500 for the Mg Weapon upgrade package
(same price as just the brain and no packaged items upgrade deal, so free $5K worth of gear).

If an Epic-M Dragon & Side SSD was purchased for $31,500 before NAB.
The trade in credit towards the upgrade package is $17,500

Including deposit, a weapon upgrade in that scenario costs $17,000 (34.5-17.5)
In return for paying $17,000, the upgrade buyer gets a $5000 store credit.

resulting in a net expenditure of $12,000 (17-5)

$12K for a new camera system worth $40K (including packaged items) is pretty f'n sweet, but is certainly more then $4K

Another way to read this is:
Trade a $31,500 camera + $17K cash for $45K worth of gear

That perception could be interpreted as paying a loss of ONLY $3.5K in property value to stay current since day 1

Is that what you meant Brent?
$48,500(value paid) - $45,000(value received) = $3,500 net loss of value (but quicker)

For an Epic-X owner who paid $25,500 prior to NAB on the same path,
the net expense is $14K [34.5-15.5 = (19-5)]

And still ef'n awesome for a new camera pack worth $40K.

or with the value of property formula for Epic-X:
$44,500(value paid) - $45,000(value received) = $500 net gain of value (sweet, but wait longer)

Am I missing any discounts?
Also, is tax based on what a buyer pays? Or the total value of the $34,500 invoice?

If my understanding is correct:
When I consider the upgrade deal w/ the value paid vs value received formula,
it is super obvious what a an awesome deal Red is offering us for Weapon,
and truly proves the Red mantra, "Obsolescence Obsolete"

Thank You & Good Work

Does the $5000 credit is also available if you are buying a brand new Magnisium Weapon body (not the trade-in path)?
