Dragon upgrades

I think that the benefit is that you saved yourself 48 hours of stressing lol! You played by "the rules"...but rules weren't that clear. I, along with a lot of redusers, thought that we had more time. It's just a couple weeks (5 days in February, March and the first week or so of April) that really matter with the price decrease. After that, it's a more even playing field in terms of "you should've known better, you have no one to blame for waiting."

Again, this is more so for people that got their MX's in mid-14 and thought that they had more time to upgrade to Dragon. I already lost $3k by buying a Rocket last year (yes, I bought a Rocket in 2014...I'm still kicking myself for that :emote_headwall.

Will, there's a saying in sales that when you've made the sale, change the subject... accept the win without spin.

For someone like myself who is ready to jump from Sony to the Red camp, but does not currently own an Epic/Dragon, I assume that the best way to go is wait until NAB and buy a new Weapon directly?

I think the term, "Upgrade" is what makes people feel entitled and leads to complaints.
It's really just RED "buying back" used, inferior parts at the time of selling new, superior parts.

So rephrasing the complaining translates into, "I'm upset because you won't buy back my used, inferior technology, when I purchase your new, superior technology. I have the right to make you buy my old shit back, and for the same buy-back price, even as it gets older."

That might help people realize how ridiculous it sounds to complain about a seller no longer wanting to buy back old shit.
I'm all for trying to get a low price as a consumer and asking never hurts, but the complaining is annoying to read.

Akin, I think it is more about RED coming up with a better platform that will be required to stay current for the future. The upgrade program is truly a way to soften the blow for current and future Dragon users. This is probably geared more toward the next generation of sensor and prepares us for a seamless transition to that.

I'm not really disagreeing with what you said, just adding a little more to it.

Will this upgrade be a trade in your Epic Dragon Body for a discount on Weapon, or keep your Epic Dragon and get a Weapon at a discount? Or will both options be available like when we moved from Red One to Epic?

Thanks. I was very concerned about how I was coming off. I typed, and retyped a lot of my comments. I didn't want to complain for something that at the end of the day, I messed up on. I just wanted to plead my case, and I tried my best to be respectful. I'm sure I crossed the line a little...and I apologized for that. I'm just passionate about this stuff...

Wise Words. All you guys need to do is have a Dragon.

Doesnt matter if it is Epic Dragon or Scarlet Dragon.

If you have a Dragon before NAB, Weapon will cost you less. If you get a Dragon after NAB, Weapon will cost more.

One Weapon body but the the same spec separation as between Scarlet and Epic, correct?

if we hit the numbers then it will all balance out since its quarterly and those that paid the extra $12500 price we can credit the difference back @ NAB towards whatever is next.

I hope to be +1 to help balance those numbers out and come up with the funds for the upgrade to dragon before NAB. If you can somehow guarantee that I see $3500 back towards my eventually upgrading to a weapon I will be much more likely to be +1. Cheers and excited to hopefully rally the funds to go Dragon and then Weapon!

Edit: Did not see the price would go back to $9500 Monday before posting this, Jarred you are the man! What an awesome camera company Red is to have this discussion, really take into account what its customers are saying, and defuse what could have otherwise been a interesting situation.

ok. How about just from now till NAB then?

This is very intriguing. After upgrading one of our EPIC-Ms to DRAGON, we also got caught in the timing game and decided it was better to hold off on the second. Then the price increase happened, and we still decided holding off was a better choice, as our EPIC was still working a lot. Having a second chance at the original upgrade cost (which also makes sense for RED with increased production) is much appreciated.

Much to think about moving forward.

Pushing my luck, i have upgraded one scarlet to full dragon .... anyway of getting the second scarlet to dragon for the old 19000?

Some people are getting their knickers in a knot before we know the what this upgrade actually is and what it will cost. Without this information there is not much to do. Jarred has simply given us a heads up that "somethings" coming so people can prepare. He has also opened a dialogue with his customers and we are already seeing results. Try that with any other camera manufacturer.

And would you mind *hinting* if the Weapon lines will be split? Weapon-X, Weapon-M, and Scarlet/Epic equivalents?

That would be great to know if there will be scarlet + epic weapons with similar upgrade prices.
