well, that other guy got a hat, just for asking. thought I'd give it a whirl :001_tt1:

I'm getting a free fan upgrade (with my Dragon upgrade) that I wasn't expecting and without even asking. Sometimes they answer requests even before the asking. What a company!!

When getting the Dragon upgrade, can you choose to keep your existing bottom fan 1.0 as well/instead of the 2.0 upgrade?

Good question, Alex. Let me see if we can add that wrinkle. No guarantees we can accommodate, but I can ask : )

It's a good question indeed, because I'm still not sure if some third party mounts like Optitek's Optitron Canon mount will still fit with the new bigger bottom fan.
Btw, if anyone knows the answer to that, I'm interested. There is a cable going out of the bottom of the mount, hence the question.

Are the 2.0 fans included in the Dragon upgrade? Are they required for the Dragon?

My BS Rep cancelled my original order of upgrading the Fans because now the fans are included in the Dragon upgrade.

This and the Fan upgrade, which is NOW included in the upgrade, mitigates, a bit against a new Dragon purchase...YMMV

I had been told, by RED reps, several times, that the Dragon upgraded EPIC (without Red armour) only gave a 90 DAY warranty and only on the upgraded components. This is a significant difference.

Thank you very much

90 days warranty on the sensor upgrade ?

I would have to dig up the thread where this is discussed but we did go cover this.

Here is the break down:

Customer upgrades their camera with no warranty (no standard or RED Armor) they will receive a 90 day warranty for the upgrade
Customer upgrades their camera and it still has a standard warranty, if it exceeds the 90 days it will cover the upgrade
Customer upgrades their camera and has RED Armor, whatever length they have left on their Armor warranty will cover the upgrade
Customer has the choice to buy additional Upgrade Armor to also project their upgrade

Hope that helps.

Thank you Michael. That confirms that the warranty that is included in the $9,500 Epic upgrade fee has NOT changed and is NOT one year... 90 Days. At least that has not also changed, as including new fans, in the upgrade price structure. Those factors, and others, all weigh in the decision to buy a new camera, vs. upgrading a used one, as we all know.

Thank you very much

They probably are not getting enough credit.

Congrats on your NYU Grad film this year Paul. Did you release it online yet?

Dear Red,

It is hard to figure out why you have chosen to treat Scarlet owners who opted to take the Scarlet to Epic Dragon upgrade as your lowest priority. If this was clearly stated at the time I imagine all Scarlet owners would of decided to upgrade their cameras in two stages as they would of had the benefits of having the Epic whilst waiting for the Dragon release and also receive the Dragon sooner than having taken the upgrade option in one stage.

Sadly I fall into this group and choose to take the upgrade in a single stage and have had to rent Epics for shoots that needed to be shot with higher frame rates including the two week shoot I am presently working on. My original purchase of the Scarlet was simply a financially based decision and what I could achieve at the time. The reason I opted to upgrade in a single stage was to advance myself in the shortest time possible but your priority order structure has and will effect me in doing so.

I hope you can reconsider these options.

Kind regards,

Andrew Trewartha

@Andrew
In fast changing technology markets sometimes it's better to rent than to purchase. I purchased an Epic-M at the top of the market and a bunch of premium 5K lenses to go with. All of which are yesterdays newspaper now. You live - you learn - you move on.

I'm in the same boat as you Andrew. I was surprised. I guess it's back of the line for us.
