Great update. Just a little bit sad I couldn't get it for the Macau Grand Prix! Upgrade next year!

I am sorry but I don't follow here. I don't feel this was ever fully explained out. If I would have known that I could have upgraded to Epic and then upgrade to Dragon and still be ahead of my initial Scarlet to Epic Dragon place than I would have. I don't think this was really fully explained. Not to mention I put aside my 18K with the understanding that these were going to be released this summer while everyone else put up 9 K and have had fun with their Epics all summer and now can still get their Dragons before me? O well, guess the joke was on me...![]()
Hey Brad. I had to wrap my head around this too. I decided to upgrade to Epic first because I figured I'll at least have the summer to use it before Dragon was ready. Your Bomb Squad should have made it obvious that Dragon was going to take some time.
Top/fan kits come with all EPIC-M new DRAGON cameras (standard or carbon fiber) and all DRAGON EPIC sensor upgrades (X or M brains): https://support.red.com/entries/23769427-What-does-the-EPIC-RED-DRAGON-upgrade-include-

oh sweet music to my ears!
is there any way of know what number in the queue will be out in the wild by Dec. 1 when the faucet turns on.
highly curious, like everyone else....
are Rocket-Xs going out before, during, or after camera upgrades, as a general rule? after Dec. 1, I mean.
My impression of how things progressed was that the sensor output caught them by surprise. Plus, I'm not sure Bomb Squad reps are kept in the loop other than on a "need-to-know" basis. By that I mean, when things are in flux and not known how or when they will be solved, there is no policy to inform the Bomb Squad reps until the outcome is known.
Yea I know.. And I knew it was going to take some time and to be honest the delay was expected and not an issue at all. The problem I have is how this Priority queue is set up. I mean its very simple. Someone who put down 18 K on March first should take priority over someone who put down 9 K March first. And please don't think I am trying to direct this at you or don't want you to get your Dragon or anyone for that matter, any less soon, But its just a bit frustrating.
The reason we offered SCARLET > EPIC DRAGON direct path is someone asked when we posted it, if we could do that in one step instead of the two. So we offered it. Some people preferred the convenience of the one step instead of being without your camera twice (once for SCARLET > EPIC M-X trade in and once for EPIC M-X to EPIC DRAGON). We stated that EPIC M-X > EPIC DRAGON would start before SCARLET > EPIC DRAGON from the beginning....
And, before we throw the baby out with the bathwater, there are two reasons companies rather you buy new than these upgrades. One, it makes them more money. Two, it is a b*tch to run logistically. We hope Jim's vision and our efforts are worth what may seem like a confusing and complicated process. We think it is : ).

Playing the Founder's Card Brent?
Well, it worked (on me, at least.) I for one am very appreciative of the good work you, Jarred and the whole enterprise do. It's one of the constants that many of us as customers count on.
The interesting thing is that it technically could be, based on info stated back when RED was still talking about it. The projector was to be capable of SIMULTANEOUS full-res 4K stereo, meaning it's throwing around 8K worth of pixels at a time. Now imagine if instead of running 4K 3D, we run 8K 2D by offsetting the two rasters from one another by half a pixel size both horizontally and vertically.
And we should probably take this to one of the laser projector threads because it doesn't belong here...
The Red laser projector was based on an lcos modulator, not a direct laser raster.
The laser was used as the light source only. There are no 8k lcos devices now.
Do you think that the design has changed ? It's possible, as the first theater laser projector in the field has obtained a waiver from the rules prohibiting direct laser rasters shot at the screen.
The direct raster would make ultra high contrast ratios possible. Lcos, not so much, As seen at the NAB demo with it's milky blacks.
You first, I'm about to get busy. I actually have sourced 8k lcos last year or so, and was planning on doing a 8k laser projector before my engineer ran off. The reality is that there is a market for both 4k and 8k. The impressive thing is that the chip had very high fill factor and reflectivity, a lot lot more than I was expecting.
