Ok ok! Fine! I'll release the first RED Dragon footage. I know you all have been waiting for it. Well, here it is. This could be the best looking footage in the industry.

All I'm sayin' is RED is good enough for Peter Jackson, Fincher and Steven Soderberg et al... and they aren't exactly chopped liver.
- Steven Soderberg: Shot a film on the XL1. Great director, but doesn't seem to really care about the image. You could as easily say "If the XL1 is good enough for him then it's good enough for me!"
- Peter Jackson doesn't jump to the top of my list when I think "visually driven films". And his last few have been mostly matte paintings.
- David Fincher: love his style but except for social network he generally goes towards the black and blue end of the color spectrum. Which doesn't lend itself to every project.

Soderberg's Che looked decent, but after Haywire it is clear that he must love the camera for the convenience... ;-) that movie literally came straight from the rough cut into release, plain ugly with no grading at all...
Hate to tell you but it was graded.... Yeah, it looks terrible. I watched it for fun and was appalled.

Anyways, I hear a rumor that some Epics just got upgraded with the Dragon. Anyone else hear anything?
There are Epics being upgraded.. but we are not shipping yet.

On my 65^3 calibrated 65VT50 in 24fps, the grading on The Hobbit was fantastic, I was very surprised... PJ's use (and overuse) of CGI (and lack of QC) in some scenes has always been funny - but the image looked outstanding...
Yes... good DPs are important to a movie, but they are not THE most important part of the whole.
But my point is... would these films have made one dollar more if they had been painstakingly pored over by a perfectionist DP who thinks he's shooting Ryan's Daughter or GWTW?
I can see a group of movie-goers now outside the multi-plex discussing which movie to go to and one of them saying "Oh, let's go see the Rise of The Killer Tomatos... I've heard if you take a still from the movie the tomato looks more like a Brandywine rather than a Better Boy or Celebrity." '-)
