It is probably about time for an update.

Dragon is coming along well.. Graeme is working his magic and getting some incredible new color science buttoned up for when we are ready. REDCINE-X with Dragon support is ready. The Dragon camera firmware is complete. The Sensors and ASICs are performing like champs, its all down to the bottom end noise that was found in the power supplies, which have been redesigned and we should see those come in from manufacturing in a couple weeks.

The slice of production line is back from NAB and we are stocking up on all the mechanicals, sensors and ASICs so we can hit the ground running to do the upgrades when everything comes together.

I know everyone is eager and waiting.. thank you for your patience.

We have been doing lens coverage test on the Dragon while we are waiting.. and lens coverage is surprisingly good so far.. Hopefully I can grab Brook Evin and Phil one of these days soon with a van full of glass so they can put together some sort of master Dragon-Lens-matrix. The specs and assumptions of coverage don't always match real life, so nothing is better than getting the actual lenses and putting them on the camera and taking a look.

Quite Exciting!

Good news that you are still identifying and solving issues rather than bending to customers eagerness to have it now.

If you know us, you know how hard it is to keep these Dragons on a leash and not let them out into the wild until they are perfect.

I actually liked the "Get it now and solve it later" approach. Epic M with no sound and no playback was fantastic compared to no epic m, at that point of time... Lol

Awesome...Can't wait!

Great to hear. I'm glad to hear that Red is thinking ahead to the onslaught of questions that we wil hear as soon as Dragon hits the streets. Lens tests are a brilliant idea.

I'd also love to see you prepare some post assets like standard LUTs and best a practices white paper to knock down that complaint we've heard so often. You could convert a lot of naysayers with small stuff like that.

Yeah me too. But no, that is not the "proper" way to do things.

Then again, who wants to be proper.

Hmm.

Never mind. Bjorn be quiet. you are a horrible influence :)

You guys are killing it. Just keep up the great work. We already have some of the most well-designed imaging tools ever created. Looking forward to the future, but anyone who has issue with where things are -- may want to seriously evaluate themselves.

Unfortunately, that's not as easy for them to do these days. In the Red One days, they were the underdog. With Epic, they moved up the ladder to the upper echelon of digital camera manufacturers. With Dragon, I think there are a lot of eyes on RED. With a more crowded 4K+ class, the expectations are high. If I had to guess, I think RED would love to set themselves apart and perhaps change even the minds of those who don't cut them any slack. Releasing early with problems would not help that cause. If it was just the Reduser base, sure they could take that chance. They are serving far more markets than this community though, so I think it would be too much of a risk. Just my opinion.

Excellent and exciting news. Just send a flare up and I'll be there.

One thing I'll say in the brief investigation/research I've been doing with prime sets is I think many folks should feel very sound in their glass investment, which I know a few folks had some headaches over.

And remember, if you have glass that covers Epic Mysterium-X at 5K safely today you at a minimum have glass that covers Epic Dragon at 5.5K tomorrow. All your lenses just got an upgrade.

Thank you for the update, Jarred. Looking forward to pushing a Dragon around soon...
Maybe flying it around, too.
