DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

Frank - what they used in the DJI video is a custom tube-like insert with some sort of elastic securing strap. You can see this in the BTS version of the video...:

http://youtu.be/XlqVABCrX5A

You can clearly see it at 01:01 and then again at 01:40.
Great detail of it from 01:43...

Where are you based? It might be worth giving a shout to Willis from DJI who can put you in touch with the team behind that video.
But even just looking at the above video - it should not be hard to make this affordably and in a reasonable time (day or two at the most) DIY style...

Hi Peter I see these new IDX ENDURA CUE-D75 batteries can handel a 59W maximum draw this is certainly better but have you had a chance to test an Epic Dragon shooting at 120 fps. I am a little concerned about laying out $1000 in batteries and have them not work when shooting high speed. Most of my Ronin shooting will be high speed. I did see these batteries have over draw circuits to prevent this from happening.
Thanks so much for all your input on this forum

I have no idea how to make something like this lol, but I'll ask around. I can't even wrap my head around how they did it, even when looking at them show it for that split second. Do you have Willis' contact information?

Mark, I have some excellent news!
IDX, being a Japanese company, is just being Japanese - read as over-protective of their customers.
I am running extensive tests as we speak with the Dragon and you are going to be one happy chappy!
Even the old generation and smaller E-7S runs the Dragon at full specs (6K-FF @ 82.81FPS) non-stop for over an hour...!!!
(1:02:00) to be precise... ;o)
I have mounted a GoPro at the rear of the tripod recording 1-sec interval time lapses showing how long the batteries last.
I am testing both the E-7S and the CUE-D75 and comparing it to my best REDVOLT...
I will post all the results early next week...

cool. let us know about your plate design as well... :)

Can anyone help me with any ideas on this? My shoot is coming up next weekend and have to start prepping fast...

I was the operator on the short. (that's me in the black shirt sliding into the crane) The grips used a PVC pipe and coupler to rig up a quick release. Rigged up a "safty" bungee after we slid the handle in.

I think the Key Grip on that short is actually working on fabricating and selling that "quick release" system. We (Cinemilled) might partner with him on it.

I would suggest calling your grip....and going to home depot together and getting creative...........cause that what we did.

You will find a solution.

Frank - just take your Ronin to a nearest fabricator and show then this video. They will have you sorted out in no time.
If I wasn't so busy with the release of my product and making few other custom parts - I would have made this for you...

:sifone: Peter

They are so cheap,
I'll jut buy one for kicks :)
I've been using the MOVi... but this is pretty much the same thing, Some say even better. Some say not.... ?
Who knows.
yup. biggest complaints ive seen are about the weight, and software a little under movi. However durability and toughness has been praised as well as the low price.

That's a gret news! Thanks for that test.

And the two best REDVOLTS I have - one holding 85% at full charge and the other 80% - ran the Dragon at the same specs for 24:29 and 23:00 respectively... I won't even try the other two which only hold 65% and 60% capacity... :(

Next tests are 24P for both 6K and 5K...

Hi Vincent. The mounting plate is precision CNC machined to fit the contours of the RED brain, including the ribs on the side of the Epic (while still being compatible with Scarlet).
This includes the mechanical extension of the RED's POWER ON/OFF button that is being covered by the product.
As such, there really is no way the plate could be mounted in any other position...

Having said that - if you can give me precise drawing of where the conflict is in your housing and what are the limits - I can look into possibility of custom modifying one system to fit your application...

:sifone: Peter

Hi Peter,
I just did some test based on the technical doc you posted.
I think that modifying your plate for my needs will be a bit of a headache as I need to have a full access to the original ON/OFF button of the Epic.
Not to use it because your button does that job now but just because the control of my housing sits in that position.
When looking at the camera with the lens port in the right hand, I would need the Endura to sit on the right edge of the original ON/OFF button.
Maybe I should start looking for my own solution as even the Freefly Carbon adapter has its problem in my configuration.
Anyway thanks a lot for your help.

Vincent - how much space is there in your housing from the right edge of the original RED's power ON/OFF button until the inside front of the housing?
If there is enough space to fit the battery - I can maybe make some simple solution for you (something completely different from my product)...
If you have the E-7S or the CUE-D75 (or can borrow / rent it from somewhere) - just gaffer-tape it to the side of the RED with the battery's left edge aligned with the power button's right edge - then see if that fits in your housing.
You can also just make a cardboard cut-out based on the dimensions in my drawing and gaffer-tape that to the RED to try.
If that fits - I might be able to help...

Thanks a lot Peter, I'll try that asap and I'll let you know.

In this video, it looks like the Ronin can take a Vmount battery on the back and still fit. Are these the regular arms or the talked-about XL arms? Also, if you wanted to add a wireless FF to this, is there a 15mm rail solution that can be added? For eg., can we use RED's Quickrelease system so we can move the camera from gimbal to tripod quickly?

Thanks.

The arms in the video are stock regular arms.

I have used a vmount on the back before but your are limited in tilt down because you have clearance issues.

In the video at 6:35 he shows and talks about how they set tilt limits so the battery would NOT crash into the ronin.

www.cinemilled.com - We are working on our "long arm" solution. I actually tested it last night. Sorry no pics yet. Suffice to say we are close...maybe 1 week away until we list it on our site and everyone can "free up" and expand the camera setups you can fly on your Ronin.

If you have a few of RED quick release system....I guess you could swap back and forth.... for everyone else that maybe does Not have 2 red quick release plates.... Might I suggest the cinemilled "quick switch" plate. Which allows you to leave the camera all setup on the ronin dovetail and move on and off the ronin to a tripod for example with ease.

This sounds awesome, Pedro. Excited to see what you create next.
